Houston Rockets V.S Los Angeles Clippers

Westbrook stars as Rockets soar past Clippers, Bucks down Lakers

These two teams don’t have a historic rivalry like lots of the teams on this list, but the Rockets and Clippers matchup has been one of the most competitive of the regular season. These teams have faced up against each other 4 times this season. The season series is tied 2-2. These games have provided some of the most competitive matchups of the season. One of the best games of the season was the Rockets against the Clippers on November 23rd, 2019. This was a back and forth game that had one of the most exciting fourth quarters of the season, with clutch shot after clutch shot. The most memorable moment from this game is James Harden’s and-one 3 pointer with 1:57 left in the fourth. There is lots of history between players on each team. There is beef between Rockets player Russell Westbrook and Clippers player Patrick Beverley. Their hatred for each other has dated back to the 2013 playoffs when Beverley caused Westbrook to tear his meniscus during the first round of the playoffs. There are also many former teammates that will be facing up against each other, the most notable being Paul George and Russell Westbrook. The pair were teammates for two seasons in OKC. Unfortunately they weren’t able to get past the first round as a duo. They were both traded during the 2019 offseason but old friends have turned to enemies. Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell would be facing up against their former team the Houston Rockets. They were involved in the Chris Paul trade which sent him from Los Angeles to Houston. There are also some family affairs within the Rockets and Clippers series. Rockets player Austin Rivers is the son of Clippers coach Doc Rivers. There was a memorable moment from the season when Austin Rivers got his dad ejected during the Rockets against Clippers game on November 13th, 2019. This matchup would be heavily anticipated and be one of the most competitive playoff series.

Miami Heat V.S Indiana Pacers

NBA fines T.J. Warren, Jimmy Butler for roles in altercation | NBA.com

The Heat and Pacers rivalry is one that recently spawned during the 2019-2020 season. The heated tensions between Heat player Jimmy Butler and Pacers player T.J Warren started on January 8th, 2020. In the third quarter, the Heat were up 79-56 with 6:29 left in the third. Jimmy was driving to the basket for a layup when Warren hooked his arm from behind. The two then got up close and personal and had to be separated. The next play, Jimmy was being guarded by Warren. Jimmy elbowed him in the stomach leading to him being ejected out of the game. After the foul was called, T.J started taunting Jimmy by making clapping gestures towards him. Warren continued with the gesturing by giving Butler the middle finger. While Butler was leaving the arena, Butler began to taunt Warren by blowing kisses to him. The drama didn’t stop there. After the game in a post-game interview, Butler threw shade to T.J Warren. He stated that Warren was soft and that he couldn’t guard him. We were supposed to see the two rematch on March 20th, but the game got cancelled due to the NBA postponing their season. Now if we see these two teams rematch, then we will see a rematch of Jimmy Butler V.S T.J Warren. Both these teams are also great defensively, so it will be a gritty and competitive matchup. The Heat and Pacers also have some of the best young passing big men in the game with Domantas Sabonis and Bam Adebayo. The Pacers aren’t recognized enough in the NBA media, so going up against a more popular team may help the Pacers get more media attention.

New Orleans Pelicans V.S Los Angeles Lakers

Must-See: Zion Williamson, LeBron James duel in thrilling Lakers ...

The New Orleans Pelicans aren’t in a playoff spot yet, but with the NBA’s return plan, they have the opportunity to take the eight seed in the Western Conference. Most NBA fans want to see a Lakers V.S Pelicans playoff series in the first round. There are also reports that the league wants to see this potential playoff series. They desire a Lebron V.S Zion first round matchup and their dream is to have a playoff moment similar to Michael Jordan V.S the Celtics in the 1986 playoffs. Lebron James is widely considered to be the best player in the league and he brings in lots of revenue for the NBA. Zion Williamson is only 20 years old, but he’s already one of the most hyped players in the league. Coming out of high school, Zion Williamson was the most hyped player to come out of high school since Lebron James. He was even drawing comparisons to Lebron James. Seeing them face each other in the first round would be a legendary matchup. Putting these two players against each other would also bring the NBA lots of viewers. It would likely be the most tuned into first round playoff matchup. There are more ties between the Pelicans and Lakers that would make this series heavily anticipated. The Lakers and Pelicans were involved in a blockbuster trade last summer that brought Anthony Davis to Los Angeles. Anthony Davis was drafted by the Pelicans franchise and played with them for 7 seasons. He was easily the best player for the Pelicans over his career with them. However, the Pelicans failed to build a successful team around Davis, which resulted in a lack of playoff success. Last season there was lots of tension between Davis and the Pelicans franchise, which resulted in him forcing his way out of New Orleans. There is still bad blood between Davis and his former team and he will be extra motivated to eliminate them in the playoffs. In return for trading Davis, the Pelicans acquired Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram. The Pelicans have built debatably the best young core in the NBA, with a good portion of their young core being former Lakers players. Ingram, Lonzo and Hart have all improved since their time on the Lakers and they will be seeking revenge against their former team. This matchup would be one of the most elite teams facing one of the most elite teams of the future. Although it is almost guaranteed the Lakers would win this series, there would be lots of entertainment value and could potentially become one of the best first round series in NBA history.

Milwaukee Bucks V.S Toronto Raptors

How heavy a load can Pascal Siakam carry for the Toronto Raptors ...

The Bucks and Raptors are currently the two best teams in the Eastern Conference record wise. Both of these teams have been dominating the NBA this season. The Bucks had the best record in the league last season and still found a way to improve. Giannis has been the best player in the league this season and is the heavy favourite to win the MVP award. The Raptors are the defending champions and at times look even better than they did last season. Despite losing their Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, they have still found a way to be an elite basketball team. Lots of this can be credited to Pascal Siakam. He won Most Improved Player last season and took an even bigger leap this season. He made his first all-star appearance this season and has improved his scoring from 16.9 to 23.6 points per game. Other players stepping up for the team such as Norman Powell, Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby has helped heal the wound of losing Kawhi Leonard. These teams also have some recent history facing off against each other. The Bucks faced off against the Raptors in the 2019 playoffs. The Raptors beat the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals in 6 games. It was a very close and competitive series. The Bucks lost, despite being the favourites in the series. If the Bucks and Raptors rematch, the Bucks will be hungry for revenge. Both of these teams are anticipating a deep playoff run and it’s very likely one of these teams will make the finals. These teams have also had some great duels during the 2019-2020 regular season. They have faced each other twice during the regular season and the Bucks are 2-0 in the season series. Both of these games were within 11 points and the Raptors even held Giannis to only 16 points during the second game of the season series. This playoff series could also play a huge factor in Giannis and his free agency decision. There has been multiple rumours that the Raptors having a strong chance of signing Giannis in the 2021 NBA offseason. If the Raptors beat the Bucks in the playoffs this season, it can be their opportunity to prove to Giannis that he should join the Raptors.

Los Angeles Clippers V.S Dallas Mavericks

Clippers show off 'scary' defense against Luka Doncic, Mavericks ...

This playoff series has the potential to be the most competitive first round matchup in the 2020 NBA playoffs. The Clippers are one of the favourites to win the NBA championship. They are led by two of the league’s best defenders Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. On the other side of this matchup you have the Dallas Mavericks led by Luka Doncic. The Mavericks have a historic offence. Luka has led the Mavericks to the best offensive rating in NBA history. Due to the Mavericks elite scoring capabilities and being led by a top 10 player in the league, some are claiming the Mavericks as a dark horse team to make the NBA finals. This playoff series would be a huge test for Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic. In only his second season, Luka has put up all-time great statistics. He is averaging 28.7 points per game and 8.7 assists per game. Among the whole league, he ranks 6th in points per game and 4th in assists per game. He is one of 4 players this season to rank top 10 in points per game and assists per game. Luka is already a household name in the basketball community, but this will be our first chance to see Luka in playoff action. There have been many greats such as Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan who have had memorable playoff performances in their rookie year. If Luka can defeat the Clippers in a 7 game series and put up historic statistics, then he can join some elite company. The Clippers have lots of great individual defenders, so it will be interesting to see how they handle the offensive juggernaut of Luka Doncic. This series will be a test for both teams. The Clippers defence will be tested against a historic offence. If the Clippers can swiftly take care of the Mavericks and find a way to slow down Luka Doncic, then that can make them be seen as championship favourites even more.

Philadelphia 76ers V.S Boston Celtics

Is the Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics the best rivalry in ...

This is one of the most historical rivalries in NBA history. The rivalry between the 76ers and Celtics dates back to the 1960’s. Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain had the biggest rivalry during the 60’s era of basketball. They matched up against each other many times in the playoffs. In Wilt’s first playoff run as a member of the 76ers, he was facing Bill Russell and the Celtics. The Celtics beat the 76ers in 7 games with the final score of game 7 being 110-109 for the Celtics. Bill Russell and the Celtics went on to win the championship that season. The following season, the 76ers lost to the Celtics again in the playoffs, this time in only 5 games. After defeating the 76ers yet again, the Celtics went on to win another NBA championship. The next season the 76ers got their revenge. This time they beat the Celtics in 5 games and Wilt Chamberlain went on to win his first career NBA championship. The next season the 76ers and Celtics met each other in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. This time the Celtics beat the 76ers in 7 games. In game 7 the Celtics beat Philadelphia 100-96. After defeating the 76ers in a competitive series, they went on to win yet another NBA championship. This rivalry between Philly and Boston was resumed in the 1980’s. In Larry Birds rookie season, he was matched up against Julius Erving and the 76ers in the conference finals. Philadelphia went on to win the series in 5 games and lost in the NBA finals to the Los Angeles Lakers. The following season, the 76ers and Celtics met in the conference finals again. This time the Celtics beat the 76ers in 7 games. This was a very competitive evenly matched series and the Celtics won by one point in game 7. After defeating the 76ers, the Celtics went on to win the NBA finals. The following season, the two teams met again in the conference finals. Julius Erving and the 76ers defeated the Celtics in 7 games. After defeating the Celtics, the 76ers went on to the NBA finals where they eventually lost to the Lakers. This rivalry is one of the most historic in the NBA and could be revitalized this playoffs. Jayson Tatum and Ben Simmons are two of the best young players in the league and are the future faces of the NBA. Joel Embiid is one of the biggest interior threats in the NBA. The Celtics lack an interior presence to slow down Embiid but they have shown they can matchup against him, due to great coaching by Brad Stevens. Both of these teams are built very differently. The Celtics have a small lineup with emphasis on spacing and great team defence. The 76ers roster has lots of length and great individual defenders but they lack spacing. It will be interesting to see how these how these two different teams matchup against each other and how they adjust to each other. It will for sure be must watch basketball.

OKC Thunder V.S Houston Rockets

Oklahoma City's Paul and Houston's Westbrook headline reserves for ...

One of the biggest trades that happened last offseason was a trade between the OKC Thunder and the Houston Rockets. This trade sent Russell Westbrook to team up with his former teammate James Harden. This trade also sent Chris Paul to the OKC Thunder, immediately making him the leader of the team and face of their franchise. After trading away Westbrook, the Thunder didn’t have very high expectations going into the season. However, they have surprised the majority of NBA fans and the Thunder sit comfortably in a playoff spot. Lots of this success can be attributed to Chris Paul. He has been the leader of the team on and off the court this season. He also has been one of the clutchest players this season. Chris Paul has a great impact on the court that doesn’t appear in the box scores. He almost always makes the right play and is good at involving his teammates and keeping them happy. Paul also has significantly elevated his teammate’s production, as well as elevating the ceiling of the team. For the Houston Rockets, James Harden and Russell Westbrook have formed one of the most dominant duos in the NBA. Individually, Westbrook has reshape his game this season and has gone under the radar. He is shooting a career high 47.4% from the field and is having one of the best scoring seasons of his career. He has also been reducing his 3 point attempts and is embracing his strengths more than ever. Russell Westbrook is one of the deadliest players when attacking the basket so this made the Rockets comfortable with trading Clint Capela at the trade deadline. Westbrook now has more space to attack the basket and has become an even deadlier threat in transition due to the extreme amount of spacing. Both Westbrook and Chris Paul have proved to be good fits for their team and have exceeded the expectations set on them before the season. A first round matchup of these point guards going head to head would be entertaining basketball. Chris Paul will seek revenge against his former team and he will work towards winning his first NBA championship. Meanwhile, Westbrook will also be chasing his first ring and he will be playing against his former team that he was loyal to for 11 seasons. James Harden will also be playing his former team the OKC Thunder. Harden was drafted to the Thunder 3rd overall in the 2009 NBA draft. With his short amount of time on the Thunder, he made the NBA finals and won the 6th man of the year award. After he won 6th man of the year and made the finals, he was traded in one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history. Once he was traded to the Rockets, he broke out and became a superstar. Just like Westbrook, he will also be looking for revenge against his former team. This revenge storyline would be one of the most compelling storylines in the first round. These teams are also very evenly matched and have an identical record during the regular season.

Los Angeles Clippers V.S Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron still wears the crown after win over Clippers - Axios

This matchup is what most fans anticipate to be the Western Conference Finals. The battle of L.A has been one of the best rivalries this season. There is lots of anticipation when these two teams face each other. Both of these teams made blockbuster acquisitions last offseason. The Clippers acquired both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the 2019 NBA offseason. Meanwhile, the Lakers acquired superstar Anthony Davis in the biggest blockbuster trade of the offseason. Both L.A teams have finals aspirations and would more than likely have to face each other on their route to the finals. These teams have gone head to head in some of the most memorable games throughout the season. In the first game of the season, the Clippers beat the Lakers with a score of 112-102. In this game Kawhi Leonard dropped 30 points and the Clippers came out with the win, even with the absence of Paul George. The next matchup these two teams had was on Christmas Day. This game had 8.8 million viewers and is the 2nd most viewed Christmas Day game of all time. This game was very close but ultimately, the Clippers won 111-106. Their next matchup would be on March 8th, 2020. In this game the Lakers won with a score of 112-103. Lebron James scored 28 points this game and had 9 assists. Anthony Davis scored 30 points in this game, helping the Lakers come out with the win. The Kawhi Leonard V.S Lebron James rivalry has been one of the most competitive rivalries. Both these players are not only chasing the championship, but also chasing the title of best player in the entire league. It is also the battle of L.A and both these teams are competing for the status of best team in Los Angeles. This would be the first time these teams met in a playoff series and it would be an intensely competitive 7 game series.

Miami Heat V.S Philadelphia 76ers

Sixers fans boo Jimmy Butler in his return, Sixers themselves just ...

Both these teams have not met the expectations that were set on them before the season. For the 76ers, they were expected to be the clear cut second best team in the East behind the Milwaukee Bucks. They were expected to be the Bucks biggest competition and potentially make the NBA finals. This season however, the 76ers have not lived up to these expectations yet. With the NBA returning we could see the 76ers turn things around and reach the expectations given to them before the season. However, what we’ve seen from the regular season is not too promising. They have struggled to stay healthy and find a rhythm. They are currently ranked as the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 39-26. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have had a very different regular season. They have exceeded their expectations that they were given prior to the season starting. Lots of this can be attributed to Jimmy Butler’s great leadership, along with the emergence of Bam Adebayo. The Heat currently have a record of 41-24 and are the 4th seeded team in the east. Both these teams are great defensively and it would be a very gritty and defensive oriented series. The 76ers and Heat have also both struggled on the road this season. The 76ers have a record of 10-24 on the road and a record of 29-2 at home this season. The Heat have a record of 14-19 on the road and a record of 27-5 at home this season. It will be fascinating to see how both these teams do without home court advantage. The main story line in this series is Jimmy Butler facing his former team. There is still some bad blood between Jimmy and the 76ers. There was lots of behind the scenes drama last season when Butler was a member of the 76ers. Jimmy questioned his teammate’s motives and work ethic. Most people speculate that he is referring to former teammate Ben Simmons. Now, this series could be an opportunity for these two to settle their drama on the court in a 7 game series.

Milwaukee Bucks V.S Los Angeles Lakers

Giannis Antetokounmpo & LeBron James: Mutual Respect | NBA.com

The NBA finals will be the most anticipated part of the playoffs, regardless of which teams are playing. Despite that, this would be the most anticipated finals possibility. Prior to the season, this was most people’s finals predictions. The Bucks and Lakers have been the top seeds for their conferences this season. The Bucks were on a roll before the season was postponed. They were winning at a historic pace and currently have a record of 53-12. This incredibly skilled team has been led by MVP front runner Giannis Antetokounmpo. The reigning MVP has somehow found a way to improve this season. Giannis is getting more comfortable from 3 point range. He raised his 3 point attempts from 2.8 to 4.8 a game and he raised his 3 point percentage from 26% to 31%. Giannis also raised his scoring production. He went from averaging 27.7 points last season to averaging 29.6 points this season. He is putting up these impressive scoring numbers in only 30 minutes per game. The Bucks have been so dominant that Giannis rests for most of the 4th quarter. He has averaged only 7.5 minutes in the 4th quarter this season. This ranks him 118th in minutes played in the fourth quarter this season. He is also a top candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award. The Bucks are looking to finish their historic season with a championship. Anything short of a finals appearance would be a disappointment. The same applies to the Lakers. Anything short of a finals appearance would be a disappointment for the Lakers. They went all in by trading for Anthony Davis in the offseason. Lebron will be chasing his first ring as a Laker and will look to add a fourth championship to his resume. This finals series would be filled with the biggest names in basketball. Giannis and Lebron are the two leaders of the MVP race. Anthony Davis and Giannis are also the two front runners for the Defensive Player of the Year award. Lebron and Giannis would be battling head to head, not just for the championship, but for the title as best player in the league. Giannis is chasing his first ever NBA championship while Lebron is chasing the status of greatest player of all time. This series would be filled with lots of back and forth action and intense moments. It would have the potential to go down as the greatest NBA finals of all time.

What the NBA Return Means for Every Team

NBA analysts decide: LeBron and AD or Kawhi and PG?

The NBA has officially announced their long awaited return. The NBA will resume on July 30th. Each of the 22 teams chosen to participate in the return of the NBA will play 8 exhibition games to determine playoff seeding’s. This playoffs is very crucial for many teams as it can change the landscape of the league depending on what occurs in Orlando. This playoffs can also determine who the consensus best player in the league is. We will be analyzing the current situation of every NBA team participating in the NBA’s return. We will also evaluate the importance of the NBA’s return for each franchise.

Milwaukee Bucks

FIBA World Cup 2019: Middleton, Lopez wish Giannis Antetokounmpo ...

The Milwaukee Bucks currently have the best record in the league with a record of 53-12. They are one of the favourites to win the NBA championship. The Bucks have a lot of expectations for the remainder of the season. If they don’t reach these expectations, it could potentially alter the direction of their franchise. Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is an upcoming free agent in the 2021 NBA Free Agency class. Giannis has stated that “if we’re underperforming in the NBA next year, deciding whether to sign becomes a lot more difficult.” This playoff run can have a huge effect on Giannis’s upcoming free agency decision. If they make the finals or win the championship, then it will be more than likely that he will resign. If the Bucks don’t reach the NBA finals, we may see Giannis playing elsewhere for the 2021-2022 season. Khris Middleton will be a player to watch out for with the NBA’s return. He is the clear cut second best player on the Bucks and needs to perform like one when it matters the most. Teams in the east have already been game planning against Giannis and are confident they can slow him down. If Middleton doesn’t step up and perform like the all-star caliber player he is, then that can weigh in as a factor for Giannis’s free agency decision.

Los Angeles Lakers

Anthony Davis 'trying to figure it out' with LeBron James after ...

Lebron James is leading his team to one of the best records in the league. He is also a top MVP candidate at the age of 35. He shows no signs of slowing down but we don’t know when he will start declining. It could potentially be sooner than we think. The Lakers are in serious contention for this year’s championship and this championship would be huge for the city of Los Angeles as well as Lebron James legacy. Lebron James is undoubtedly one of the best to ever play the game of basketball. Some even debate he is the greatest of all time. The biggest flaw in his resume has been his finals record. Lebron has a record of 3-6 in the NBA finals. The Lakers winning the title would mean that Lebron has a 4-6 finals record and would strengthen his argument for the greatest of all time. If the Lakers won the finals and Lebron was named Finals MVP, he would be the first player in NBA history to win Finals MVP on 3 different teams. Winning the title would also mean a lot for the city of LA and the Lakers historic franchise. The Lakers are accounted to winning but haven’t won a championship since 2010. Winning the championship would break that drought, as well as add another championship to the Laker’s history. This would also tie the Celtics for the most championships by one franchise with both teams potentially having 17 championships to their name.

Toronto Raptors

What will the Toronto Raptors look like next season and moving ...

The reigning champion Toronto Raptors are looking to defend their title in Orlando. The Raptors have the 3rd best record in the league and are poised for a deep playoff run. They have great depth, chemistry, defence and coaching. The Raptors still have good odds of repeating as champions, despite losing their Finals MVP player Kawhi Leonard in the 2019 NBA offseason. There has been doubt of the Raptors being true contenders due to them not having a superstar on the team. This playoffs will be very important for Raptors best player Pascal Siakam. Last season, he won most improved player but with Kawhi gone, he improved and stepped up as the Raptors leader. He made his first all-star game this year and is averaging almost 24 points per game. This playoffs can be a chance to prove that Pascal is a superstar player that can lead his team to the finals. It is also the perfect opportunity for the Raptors to show that they are a serious threat in the NBA.

LA Clippers

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George combine for 88 points in the Los ...

The Clippers have built an elite roster that some may argue is the best roster in the league. The Los Angeles Clippers franchise has been overshadowed by the Lakers since the team moved to Los Angeles in 1978. Los Angeles has always been the Lakers city. A championship would mean that the Clippers rise out of the Lakers shadow and add a championship to their scarce team history. The Clippers are hunting for their first championship in franchise history. Kawhi Leonard is also chasing another ring, attempting to enrich is legacy and lengthen his already impressive resume. He could potentially be the first player to win a Finals MVP on 3 different teams. Kawhi winning in Los Angeles would also solidify him as the best player in the league. He is already the best defensive player in the league and would potentially win back to back championships. Paul George has had a great career but a championship for him would strengthen his legacy. It would also make him more likely to end up in the basketball hall of fame.

Boston Celtics

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown continue to thrive as Boston Celtics ...

Even with Kyrie Irving departing in the offseason, the Boston Celtics still are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. They also have an elite young core led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Celtics are in a position to contend for the next decade. Because of this, they don’t have the same expectations to succeed in the postseason like many other teams do. They are one of the youngest teams in the league with their roster having an average age of 25.3. Even while being a young team, they still have some playoff experience already. This will be Tatum’s third consecutive playoff appearance, Marcus Smart’s sixth consecutive playoff appearance and Jaylen Brown’s fourth consecutive playoff appearance. The playoffs are a time where players can prove themselves. For Jayson Tatum, this may be the case. In his last 10 games before the season was postponed, Tatum was averaging 30.8 points per game. The playoffs can be where Tatum picks up where he left off and potentially establish himself as a superstar. The NBA return will also determine their placement in the 2020 NBA draft. The Celtics own the Grizzlies 2020 first round pick. If the Grizzlies fall out of their playoff spot, the Celtics will own another lottery pick and select another promising prospect to add to their already promising young core.

Denver Nuggets

Film Study: How Nikola Jokic drives Nuggets' offense | NBA.com

Last season the Nuggets finished with a record of 54-28 and were the second seeded team in the Western Conference. Despite this regular season success, they were upset in the second round by the Portland Trailblazers. The Nuggets have proven that they are an elite team in the regular season, but they are very unproven in the playoffs. The 2020 NBA playoffs can be their chance to prove that they can contend for the title and be a serious threat in the Western Conference. The Nuggets are one of the best home teams in the league, due to the high altitude the opposing players face in Denver. The high altitude makes it a nightmare for the opposing team to play in. This gives the home team Denver Nuggets a great advantage. Now that the playoffs are taking place in Orlando, the Nuggets won’t have that same advantage they would previously have. Nuggets star player Nikola Jokic may look very different on the court when the NBA returns. A big issue for Jokic during his career has been his conditioning. He always starts the season out of shape and slowly plays into shape throughout the season. During this global pandemic, Jokic has taken the effort to get more into shape and has reportedly lost a lot of weight. Most people anticipate this weight loss will help his overall game. We will see how “Skinny Jokic” plays in Orlando and if the weight loss helps elevate his game to the next level.

Utah Jazz

Gobert/Mitchell relationship | NBA.com

The Utah Jazz will look very different when the NBA returns. Bojan Bogdanovic played a big role in the Jazz successful season. He was the team’s second leading scorer with an average of 20 points per game. He was also a great floor spacer for the team and was shooting almost 42% from 3 this season. Bojan will not be joining the team in Orlando, due to a wrist injury. This is a huge loss for Utah. The Jazz will most likely move Joe Ingles to the starting lineup, which would result in them losing depth off the bench. Donovan Mitchell and Bojan are the main scorers on the team. Without Bojan, Mitchell will have to take on more scoring responsibilities. We could potentially see Mitchell and the Jazz struggle without that scorer to take the pressure off of Donovan Mitchell. Another player that needs to step up for the Jazz is Mike Conley. Going into the 2019-2020 season, Mike Conley was expected to take the Jazz to the next level and be the all-star caliber player he was in Memphis. This season however, Mike Conley has been one of the most disappointing players in the entire NBA. He missed a significant amount of time this season (23 games) and struggled to stay consistent when he was on the court. Mike Conley’s role will be expanded and he will need to return to his all-star caliber self if the Jazz want to find success in the postseason.

Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler Hilariously Explains Why Tyler Herro Has 'Hood ...

The Heat have been a very surprising team this season and have exceeded all expectations. The Miami heat were projected to win 43 games by ESPN and Bleacher Report this season. They are currently the 4th seed in the east and were on pace to win 52 games before the season got postponed. The Heat are one of the teams that have the potential to beat the Bucks in a 7 game series. They have elite defenders such as Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. They also have lots of good shooters such as Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro. The Bucks and Heat have faced off against each other twice this season. The Heat have won in each of their meetings. They have already found regular season success against the Bucks so watch out for how the Heat matchup against Milwaukee in a potential playoff series. The Heat are also attempting to pursue the top free agents in the 2021 free agency class. This postseason could be vital in the Heat proving that they are an ideal free agent destination for the upcoming free agents. The Heats core is also filled with young players such as Bam Adebayo, Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro who have no playoff experience. This post season will be the first chance for those players to get their first taste of playoff action. Hopefully they make many more playoff appearances in their careers.

Houston Rockets

Harden, Westbrook combine for 62 points to lift Rockets - ESPN Video

At the 2020 NBA trade deadline, the Rockets opted into going with a small ball lineup that prioritized a ludicrous amount of floor spacing. This strategy has been controversial amongst NBA fans. It’s a high risk high reward strategy. Their window to win is right now. They have the oldest roster in the NBA and their star players James Harden and Russell Westbrook aren’t getting any younger. If the Rockets get into a good offensive rhythm and their shots are going in, then they can be a dark horse team to watch out for. James Harden and Westbrook might be poised for a deep playoff run. They both have never won a championship in their career and know that this year is an amazing opportunity for them to win their first ring together. They are two of the most driven players in the league and their motivation will most likely be ignited. There has been some photos leaked of James Harden post NBA lockdown. It appears as though he lost a remarkable amount of weight and has stayed in great shape during the pandemic. The post season being postponed may heavily affect James Harden’s playoff performance in a positive way. James Harden is one of, if not the best regular season player in the NBA. Usually when the playoffs come around, Harden starts to slow down due to fatigue. Now that he is in more shape and rested, we may see James Harden putting up his regular season statistics during the playoffs.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City Thunder guards Chris Paul and Shai Gilgeous ...

After losing Paul George and Russell Westbrook in the offseason, the Thunder have still found a way to be one of the best teams in the league. They have been one of the most surprising teams and Chris Paul has been one of the best stories of the NBA season. Once the Thunder acquired Chris Paul, many people were saying how he was extremely overpaid, declining and that the Thunder should trade him away and start a rebuild. These people were proved wrong and the Thunder have been one of the most competitive teams this season after being projected to win 33 games by ESPN. The Thunder could be a very dangerous teams once the playoffs occur. They have been the best team in the fourth quarter this season. They have the best record while in close games with a record of 29-13. The NBA returning may also be a good time for Thunder forward Danilo Gallinari to earn more value on the open market. Danilo is an upcoming free agent and may gain lots of interest from opposing teams this offseason. Danilo will most likely be the biggest name in unrestricted free agency and due to his playstyle, he can be a great fit on many NBA teams.

Indiana Pacers

Victor Oladipo takes on go-to guy role, helps Indiana Pacers get ...

The Indiana Pacers are one of the biggest sleeper teams in the whole NBA. They don’t get talked about enough and are quietly the 5th seeded team in the Eastern Conference. Domantas Sabonis took a big leap in his game and became a first time all-star this season. Malcolm Brogdon looked like a most improved player candidate before he got injured. They also have great supporting players like T.J Warren and Myles Turner. The biggest question mark on this team has been surrounding the 2018 most improved player winner Victor Oladipo. Oladipo was the Pacers clear-cut best player last season before he suffered a ruptured quad tendon injury on January 23rd 2019. The Pacers played the majority of the season without Victor Oladipo and had a record of 32-20 without him. When Oladipo has been playing for the Pacers this season, they have had a record of 7-6. Oladipo has struggled on the court this season, shooting a career low 30% from 3 and 39% from the field. We can cut Oladipo some slack this season for his poor performance as it is very difficult to not play professional basketball for a year and then come back and try to immediately fit into a team’s system. Hopefully this resting period can help Oladipo get back to his all-star form and he can help the Pacers team. Oladipo also has a lot to prove. He is an upcoming free agent in the 2021 NBA free agency class and he declined a 4 year extension with the Pacers worth $80 million dollars. This NBA season resume is the perfect opportunity for Oladipo to show the Pacers he’s worth more than they offered him.

Philadelphia 76ers

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons hit injury report for Philadelphia ...

The Philadelphia 76ers had high expectations going into the season. Many people seen them as the second best team in the Eastern Conference and the team most likely to upset the Bucks. The 76ers are currently the 6th seeded team in the Eastern Conference and have been one of the most disappointing teams this season. On paper, the 76ers have one of the strongest rosters in the east. There have been many factors to them underperforming, the main one being their lack of shooting. In today’s NBA, shooting is more important than it’s ever been, but the 76ers are one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA. Another issue with them has been team chemistry. 76ers player Tobias Harris even admitted to their chemistry issues in an interview with First Take. He stated that “I’ll just say, and I’ll keep it real, we haven’t had the best chemistry throughout the whole year.” The 76ers also struggled with injuries this season and had players such as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons missing significant time this season. Philadelphia still has the potential to upset a team with a better record. They have a chance if they can score consistently, stay healthy and build more team chemistry. The NBA returning could also be vital in determining the future of the Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid duo. Many have voiced their doubts about the duo’s fit together and have been suggesting that Philadelphia breaks up the duo in the offseason. If Embiid and Simmons disappoint in the postseason, Philadelphia could potentially explore splitting the duo up.

Dallas Mavericks

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are forming a fearsome duo ...

It’s no surprise that Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks are chasing greatness. In his second season Luka has already been putting up historic numbers and has potential to be an all-time great. He is averaging 29 points and 9 assists at the age of 20. He is also leading the Dallas Mavericks to the playoffs, as well as leading a historic offense with the highest offensive rating in NBA history. Luka is looking to go down as one of the best players in NBA history. He will need to perform well in the playoffs if he wants to join elite company. When Michael Jordan was 22, he averaged 43.7 points per game in the first round of the playoffs and scored 63 points in a playoff game. When Lebron James was 22 he led his team to the NBA finals. There have also been many players such as Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who have led their teams to championships at a young age. This will be Luka’s first playoffs and he needs to prove that he can be just as good, or even better than he is in the regular season. He needs this playoff experience in his career and he needs to play at another level if he wants to lead the Mavericks to a deep playoff run.

Memphis Grizzlies

Morant, Jackson come up big in Grizzlies' win - ESPN Video

The Grizzlies are the first team we will be discussing that are not clinched into the 2020 NBA playoffs. The Grizzlies are another team that have exceeded all expectations. Going into the season no one expected this young team to already be in a playoff spot. There are many teams fighting for the last playoff spot in the west, which the Grizzlies currently hold. The Grizzlies are fighting to defend their playoff spot they worked hard all year to achieve. This is one of the youngest teams in the NBA. Making the playoffs would give their young players great playoff experience. It is almost guaranteed that if the Grizzlies made the playoffs that they would be defeated in the first round, but making the playoffs would be an achievement in itself. It will be interesting to see the rookie Ja Morant and how he performs in the return of the NBA and if he picks up where he left off. Unlike a lot of teams in the 8 game pre-playoff games, every game will count for Memphis and they are playing towards a goal.

Brooklyn Nets

NBA players react to Caris LeVert's injury | NBA.com Canada | The ...

The Brooklyn Nets roster will look a lot different than it did in the regular season. Some fans hoped that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant could potentially return when the NBA is resumed but it has been confirmed that they will not be travelling with the team to Orlando. Spencer Dinwiddie and DeAndre Jordan also confirmed they have Covid-19 and will not be joining the Nets in Orlando. Other players such as Wilson Chandler and Nicolas Claxton have confirmed they will not be suiting up in Orlando. The Nets roster will be the most depleted when the NBA returns with the majority of their players being absent. The Nets have virtually no expectations for the remainder of the 2019-2020 NBA season. However, with Kyrie and Durant coming back next season, the Nets have high expectations for the 2020-2021 season. The Nets will have championship aspirations for next season and are looking to pair Durant and Kyrie with that third star player. Players like Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen will have lots more opportunity when the NBA returns and could potentially raise their trade value. If the Nets want their third star, they will most likely have to trade LeVert and Allen. Joe Harris is another player who will benefit from the Nets roster losing so much depth. Joe Harris is a UFA at the end of the season and he could potentially raise his value for when he reaches the open market.

Orlando Magic

Evan Fournier [Video]

It would take a miracle for the Wizards to take the Magic’s playoff spot. This makes it pretty safe to say we will see the Magic in the 2020 playoffs. The only thing the Magic are playing towards is higher seeding since they are basically locked into a playoff spot. As of right now, the Magic would face up against the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs. In this potential matchup the Bucks would beat the Magic with ease, especially if they are missing their best defender Jonathan Isaac. Even if the Magic have Isaac for that series, the Bucks will most likely plow right through them. The Magic could easily surpass the weakened Nets in the standings to give them a more favourable first round matchup. Even if they pass the Nets they will still be the underdogs in their series. There are lots of players on the Magic to have your radar on when the NBA returns. The young players on the team like Markelle Fultz and Mo Bamba will work on their development. They will also get more experience and more opportunity. Another player to look out for is Aaron Gordon. This season he has been in trade rumours so this could either be his chance to prove they should keep him, or a chance to raise his trade value. Evan Fournier is another player who can raise his value. He will most likely opt out of his $17 million dollar player option and enter the open market.

Portland Trailblazers

Nightly Notable | Damian Lillard: Jan. 29 | NBA.com

The Trailblazers were the lone team that voted against the current NBA return plan, despite them being selected to attend in the seeding games, potentially giving them playoff hope. The Trailblazers would need to go on an impressive run to even have a chance at making the playoffs. The Blazers biggest struggle this season has been battling injuries. They have been without Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic for the entire season. They are anticipated to be returning to the team when the NBA resumes. The Blazers have been one of the most disappointing teams this season. Last season they made the Western Conference finals and now they are outside of the playoffs. This is their chance for redemption and to save their season. Lillard previously stated that he won’t play meaningless games, so this is his chance to carry his team back into the playoffs. He has been having a career year averaging 28.9 points and 7.8 assists. Damian Lillard and the Trailblazers have made the playoffs for the past 6 seasons, so the NBA has granted them a chance to return back to the playoffs.

New Orleans Pelicans

Zion Williamson wants to represent USA at future Olympics

It’s no secret that the NBA is trying their best to get Zion Williamson into the 2020 playoffs. The NBA wants a Zion VS Lebron matchup in the first round. Their dream is to have a Michael Jordan VS 1986 Boston Celtics moment. Zion brings in ratings and revenue for the NBA which was lost during the pandemic. Zion is one of the most marketable players in the NBA at the age of 19. He was recently selected to be a cover athlete for the videogame NBA 2K21. He was chosen despite only playing 19 games in the NBA so far. We haven’t seen much of Zion in his career yet. When he was playing, he was leading the Pelicans towards an 8th seed push. We only seen a glimpse of his talent and pure dominance, so with the NBA returning he will showcase his talent and dominance to a wider audience as all eyes will be on him. There was a recent post on social media that has started to go viral. It shows Zion Williamson in great shape post quarantine, showing he’s ready for the NBA to return. A big concern for Zion early on in his career has been his weight, but it’s reported that Zion has lost 25 pounds of fat and put on 10 pounds of muscle. This more in shape version of Zion makes him an even bigger threat for opposing teams.

Sacramento Kings

De'Aaron Fox Believes NBA 2K is 'Trash', Will Not Stream It

Last season the Sacramento Kings were one of the biggest surprises and one of the most fun teams to watch. This season they have faced more struggles but they still have a small chance to make the playoffs. The Kings had lots of momentum before the season was postponed. The Kings were 13-7 in their final 20 games. We will have to see if they pick up where they left off and gain momentum back. The biggest question for the Kings team surrounds Marvin Bagley. Bagley was the 2nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. His career hasn’t been off to the best start. In his career so far he has been suffering with injuries. He only played 13 games this season. He is only 21 years old and has a lot of potential but most NBA fans have already forgotten about him. His career has been overshadowed by players like Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Jaren Jackson Jr and Deandre Ayton who were all selected in the same draft as Bagley. It hasn’t been confirmed if Marvin will be suiting up with the Kings in Orlando. If he does play in Orlando it’ll be the perfect opportunity to prove himself and contribute to a team looking to make a playoff push.

San Antonio Spurs

Handle of the Night: Dejounte Murray | NBA.com

The San Antonio Spurs are historically one of the winningest franchises in NBA history. They have won 5 championships in the team’s history. They are also currently on a playoff streak of 22 consecutive playoff appearances. This is tied for the most consecutive playoff appearances in NBA history. The San Antonio Spurs have a lot of ground to make up if they want a chance to continue their streak. They are the 12th seed in the west and it’s likely their streak will be broken, but they still have a chance. The NBA return is going to be very unpredictable, but don’t expect the Spurs to make the playoffs. Especially since they will be missing LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge has a shoulder injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season. This is a huge loss for the Spurs. He is debatably the team’s best player and would’ve been a key player in the Spurs playoff push. With Aldridge out, this means more playing time and opportunity for Jakob Poeltl. Poeltl hasn’t had the best statistically year, but he is only 24 years old and still has potential to be a great rim protector. This will also be a great opportunity for Dejounte Murray. Murray is having a career year and would be the Spurs franchise player if they went into a rebuild. Dejounte has shown great flashes of scoring potential and this could be his chance to showcase it more.

Phoenix Suns

Devin Booker wins NBA 2K Players Tournament | NBA.com

The Suns would most likely need to win all of their games if they wanted a chance at snagging the 8th seed in the Western Conference. They have struggled with injuries this season but they are anticipated to be fully healthy in Orlando. There is still some hope that the Suns sneak into the playoffs. The Suns lead the league in assists and have had their most competitive season in years. Statistically they have one of the best starting lineups in the NBA. The issue is they haven’t been on the court together for a long span this season. This pandemic has allowed the team to get back to 100% health. Another player to watch out for on the Suns is Deandre Ayton. Ayton missed a significant amount of time this season due to a suspension. When he was on the court, he was one of the most underrated centers in basketball. He shown massive improvements with his post scoring as well as great improvement on the defensive side of the ball. Don’t forget that Deandre Ayton was a first overall pick just 2 years ago. He might take his game to another level in Orlando and put more people on notice.

Washington Wizards

The Wizards sold Bradley Beal on a vision, but it's already ...

The Wizards have the worst record out of all the teams invited to Orlando. They also have a slim chance of making the playoffs. The Wizards will also not have Davis Bertans in Orlando. He was the first player to opt out of the NBA restart. Bertans is fully healthy but doesn’t want to risk an injury that will jeopardize his value in his upcoming free agency. Bertans had an amazing season in Washington and his value is at an all-time high. He doesn’t want to risk losing value on the open market because it could cost him. Evan Fournier took to Twitter to throw shade at Bertans decision to sit out. Bertans responded and the two went back and forth on Twitter. A big question for the Wizards will be surrounding around Bradley Beal. It has been reported that he is unsure if he will be joining the Wizards in Orlando. Bradley Beal’s future in Washington has been in question. He is the most mentioned player in trade rumours and could potentially be traded during the offseason. The Wizards have talent on their team and have a high chance of being a playoff team next season if they keep Bradley Beal and when John Wall returns. If Beal is traded, this time in Orlando can be great to evaluate which players they want to be in their rebuild moving forward.

2020 NBA Mock Draft 1.0

The NBA has announced their plans to hold the 2020 NBA draft lottery on August 25. They have also announced that they plan to hold the 2020 NBA draft on October 15th. The 8 NBA teams that were not invited to Orlando will heavily anticipate the draft lottery and draft day. The NBA draft is a magical and significant day that can change an NBA franchise forever. Many top college prospects have gained significant interest from NBA teams who hope to select them to join their franchise.

As we count down the days until the draft, we will be doing a mock draft which will predict what order the top prospects are chosen. We will be predicting each team’s selections by evaluating the team’s needs as well as the overall talent of each individual players. Since the draft lottery is in August and we are unaware of the official draft order, we will be using the Tankathon 2020 NBA Draft Lottery Simulator to determine the draft order.

1. New York Knicks: Lamelo Ball (PG, Illawarra Hawks, 18 years old)

LaMelo Ball | 2019 NBL Highlights ᴴᴰ - YouTube

In terms of the business side of the NBA, this is the most ideal situation. Lamelo Ball is the biggest named prospect in the draft. The New York Knicks are one of the biggest markets in the NBA. When you combine these two things, its instant revenue. People will be interested in Knicks basketball again. The Knicks are in desperate need of a franchise point guard to facilitate their offence. Lamelo instantly becomes their go to playmaker, as well as someone who can shoot the 3. He will join RJ Barrett in the backcourt, making them one of the most promising young guard duos in the NBA. He is not a good defender but is a 6″8 point guard with great footspeed. Lamelo Ball is going to get a lot of opportunity to shine in New York and be their go to player for many years to come.

2. Charlotte Hornets: James Wiseman (C, Memphis, 19 years old)

James Wiseman leaves Memphis, to enter NBA draft

The Charlotte Hornets have been searching for their franchise center for many years. The Hornets have had significant interest in trading for Andre Drummond before he was dealt to the Cavaliers. There have also been rumours that the Hornets will pursue a center such as Montrezl Harrell or Hassan Whiteside in the 2020 NBA Free Agency. In this draft scenario, the Hornets get the young big man they’ve been looking for, to pair alongside their young core of Devonte Graham, Terry Rozier, Miles Bridges and P..J Washington. Wiseman will provide a dominant post presence that the Hornets need. He is very athletic and has a great frame, he’s a great rebounder as well as a great shot blocker. He is also a good player in the pick and roll and can finish at the rim efficiently. Although he only played 3 games in college this year due to a suspension, he is still projected to go top 3 in this draft. Wiseman has potential to be one of the league’s premier centers and be the ideal center that the Hornets have been looking for.

3. Detroit Pistons: Anthony Edwards (SG, Georgia, 18 years old)

No. 1 Prospect Anthony Edwards Declares For NBA Draft

This NBA draft is extremely crucial for the future of the Detroit Pistons. After trading away Andre Drummond, the Pistons have begun their rebuild and look to be one of the worst teams in the league next season. The Pistons need a top prospect to start their rebuild with seeing as though they don’t have a lot of young promising talent on their current roster. The Pistons need the best available player which would be Anthony Edwards. Edwards is debatably the best player in this draft and has a lot of potential. Edwards is the best scorer in this draft and can create his own shot inside or on the perimeter. He also is good defensively and has the potential to be an elite two way guard in the NBA. Edwards is going to get a lot of touches next season and can potentially emerge as the best player in the draft.

4. Cleveland Cavaliers: Deni Avdija (SF/PF, Maccabi Tel Aviv, 19 years old)

Top Israeli basketball prospect Deni Avdija declares for NBA Draft ...

After the top 3 prospects in the draft, there is a significant drop off in talent level. I believe the Cavaliers will be looking for the player with the most potential at this spot. The Cavaliers have a future backcourt of Darius Garland and Collin Sexton as well as having another young talent in Kevin Porter Jr, but other than that there isn’t a lot of young talent on the team. The Cavaliers don’t have a young frontcourt player but I am unsure if they draft a frontcourt player on the board such as Obi Toppin or Onyeka Okongwu. Their front court is already filled with players such as Kevin Love, Andre Drummond, Larry Nance Jr and Tristan Thompson. If they draft a frontcourt player in this draft, their development could be stunted trying to develop behind these established NBA players. The future of the Cavaliers is very uncertain and I think they should make a high risk, high reward pick that could potentially change their franchise. It is hard to tell how European prospects will transition when making the jump to the NBA. It can be a risk taking a European prospect, a risk I think the Cavaliers should be willing to take. Deni has tools to be a good defender, has shown promise as a reliable point forward and is a versatile scorer. The biggest concerns for Deni are his shooting inconsistencies, ability to create separation and if he will transfer over to the North American game.

5. Golden State Warriors: Obi Toppin (PF, Dayton, 22 years old)

Prospect Report: Obi Toppin Of Dayton - RealGM Analysis

Before the season, no one would have predicted that the team that just reached the NBA finals would be at the bottom of the league a year later. The Warriors are in a good situation right now. They are guaranteed a high draft pick and are instant contenders next season led by Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Most fans want the Warriors to draft one of the rebounding bigs in the draft such as Wiseman or Okongwu. I personally think the Warriors should lean towards a shooter or secondary ball handler rather than a rebounder. The Warriors already have Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney at the Center position, as well as having Draymond Green who has experience at the center position. The Warriors have two all-time great shooters in Steph and Klay but I think they should add another floor spacer to this lineup. Obi Toppin is being viewed as one of the safest picks in the draft. This past college season, Toppin won the Naismith College player of the year award. He has great scoring potential and could develop nicely in the Warriors system. Toppin is also 22 years old which makes him the oldest player projected to be selected within the lottery. If the Warriors want to chase the title next season, they could use the age and maturity that Toppin brings.

6. Minnesota Timberwolves: Onyeka Okongwu: (PF/C, USC, 19 years old)

Onyeka Okongwu | USC Freshman Season Highlight Montage | 16.2 PPG ...

Throughout Karl-Anthony Towns time in Minnesota, the Timberwolves have struggled to find someone to pair with him in the front court. This draft can be their chance to draft a front court player that can complement Towns. The Timberwolves are one of the worst defensive teams in the league and Towns isn’t a great interior defender. Minnesota needs to draft an athletic power forward who can make up for his defensive weaknesses. Okongwu is the perfect fit for Minnesota. He is being compared to NBA all-star Bam Adebayo, due to his tremendous athleticism and fantastic shot blocking ability. Okongwu stands at 6″9 but has incredible length. He is also good at reading passes and has the footspeed to switch onto smaller guards. Okongwu has also shown promise in his ability to roll to the rim, due to his explosive speed and powerful vertical. Him and D’Angelo Russell could form into a deadly pick and roll threat. Okongwu has good shooting mechanics and has shown he is an above average free throw shooter as a big man. Okongwu needs to work on expanding his range when he makes the jump to the NBA.

7. Atlanta Hawks: Killian Hayes (PG/SG, Ratiopharm Ulm, 18 years old)

2020 NBA Draft: Mock 1.0: Who and where will the Mavericks select ...

Most people would say that the Atlanta Hawks have the best young core in the NBA. With that being said, they aren’t in desperate need of a high potential pick. They already have Trae Young and John Collins who form one of the best young duos. They were also one of the biggest winners of the 2019 NBA draft when they selected De’Andre Hunter with the 4th overall pick as well as drafting Cam Reddish with the 10th overall pick. The Hawks have a very balanced lineup but they lack a secondary ball handler and secondary shot creator to take pressure off Trae Young. Hayes is a 6″5 combo guard who would be the best player on the board for the Hawks. Hayes is a high I.Q player who can create his own shot with ease. He is a crafty player that can finish at the basket. Hayes also has good range and has shown the ability to be a good off ball player who can be efficient in the catch and shoot. Hayes is also a great passer who can easily find an open teammate due to his incredible court vision. He can be used in many situations as he is a very versatile point guard. He can excel in the drive and kick, especially with the amount of spacing that Atlanta has. Hayes needs to work on bulking up and filling out his frame, which would improve his ability to finish through contact. He relies too much on his left hand which can be easy for defences to counter. Nonetheless, Hayes is an all-around point guard who can fit right into Atlanta’s young core. Hayes is only 18 years old so he still has a lot of room to improve.

8. Chicago Bulls: Tyrese Haliburton (PG/SG, Iowa State, 20 years old)

Potential top-10 pick Tyrese Haliburton declares for NBA draft

Entering the season, many people seen the Bulls as a team that could exceed people’s expectations and potentially make the playoffs. The Bulls did not reach these expectations, mostly due to coaching as well as offensive struggles that came from lacking a primary playmaker. The Bulls have lots of offensive weapons that need to be properly utilized to reach their full potential. Getting a good floor general and someone to facilitate and run the offence smoothly will help that problem. The Bulls did just draft point guard Coby White in last year’s draft with the 7th overall pick, however Coby White isn’t a good playmaker and is more of a scorer so I think he would work best in the 6th man role. Tyrese is the best passer and playmaker in this draft and can run Chicago’s offence. Tyrese is a smart and efficient player who had a good turnover to assist ratio in college, as well as shooting great from the field and 3 point range. He is a quick guard that can get to the basket at ease and is also a threat in transition. The biggest concern for Tyrese is his frame. He only weighs at 180 lbs and will need to add more strength. He also needs to change his shot mechanics as he has a slow release that hinders the amount of time it takes for him to get his shot off. Nonetheless, Haliburton is a point guard that can control the game, just like the Bulls are looking for. Tyrese is also a good fit next to Zach LaVine in the backcourt.

9. Washington Wizards: Isaac Okoro (SF, Auburn, 19 years old)

Prospect Report: Isaac Okoro Of Auburn - RealGM Analysis

With John Wall returning next season, the Wizards have playoff expectations. They have great depth and are led by 30 point per game scorer Bradley Beal and a healthy John Wall. This season the Wizards were the worst defensive team in the league and look to be a very poor defensive team next season. The Wizards desperately need a good perimeter defender who can guard the opposing team’s best perimeter player night in and night out. Okoro is believed by most to be the best defender in this year’s draft. He is a tremendous athlete and has a great combination of strength, speed and vertical. Okoro is very versatile and can effectively play the shooting guard or small forward position. He can even play the small ball 4 at the NBA level due to his toughness and high defensive I.Q. The biggest concern for Okoro is his offensive game. Okoro is very raw on the offensive end and hasn’t shown promise of being able to create his own shot. Although he is a great finisher, he hasn’t shown the ability to consistently shoot perimeter shots. Okoro’s offensive struggles will be masked by Washington’s efficient offence, allowing Okoro to strictly focus to the defensive side of the court.

10. Phoenix Suns: Cole Anthony (PG, North Carolina, 20 years old)

North Carolina freshman Cole Anthony to return from knee surgery ...

The Suns could be looking to pair Devin Booker with a point guard in this year’s draft. The Suns already have Ricky Rubio but they don’t have a reliable long term option at the point guard position. Rubio is almost 30 and can help mentor the young point guard until he’s ready to take over as the starting point guard. Cole Anthony is one of the biggest risks in the draft, but the Suns can take their time developing him. This past college season was a rough one for UNC. UNC coach Roy Williams even stated that this is the least gifted team he has ever coached. Cole Anthony also suffered a knee injury that had him missing significant time. This injury could potentially come into play later on in his career. When Cole was on the court, he averaged 3.5 turnovers and 4 assists per game, as well as shooting a horrendous 38% from the field. We can cut Cole some slack after he had to carry a very heavy workload with North Carolina. Despite his step backs, Cole still has lots of promise. He has lots of confidence and is a very dynamic player. He is great at generating his own shot and is effective in isolation situations. Cole is also incredibly quick and pesty on the defensive end, despite his narrow frame. He has great handles and is very flashy. He needs to work on playing team oriented basketball. Despite this, him and Devin Booker could form into a lethal backcourt duo in the future.

11. San Antonio Spurs: Patrick Williams (SF/PF, Florida State, 18 years old)

Florida State Freshman Patrick Williams Enters 2020 NBA Draft ...

With DeMar DeRozan potentially leaving in free agency and Gregg Popovich’s time nearing an end in San Antonio, the Spurs could be looking to transition into rebuild mode. The Spurs already have Dejounte Murray and Lonnie Walker to help their transition, but this draft could be vital in them acquiring another young piece. The Spurs need a young forward in this draft and Patrick Williams fits their needs. Patrick Williams is only 18 years old and is a raw prospect, but he’s oozing with potential. The Spurs are also known for their development and they can help unlock Williams’s full potential. Williams is a gifted athlete with incredible length. He is a great lob threat with amazing defensive potential. Williams has a high motor and has shown he can be a capable 3 point shooter and not a liability from beyond the arc. He needs to develop a higher basketball I.Q but that will develop and mature over time. Him learning from the veteran frontcourt players on the team such as LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay will significantly benefit his development. With the history of the Spurs franchise and their ability to develop raw prospects, there’s no telling how good Patrick Williams can become.

12. Sacramento Kings: Devin Vassell (SF/SG, Florida State, 19 years old)

2020 NBA Draft: Florida State's Devin Vassell, the Seminoles ...

The Kings are a near playoff team led by their core of De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley. Now their main priority in this draft should be to draft someone that can complement their young core. Devin Vassell is a textbook fit for the Sacramento Kings. He is an athletic wing with an explosive vertical. He has shown his ability to perform highlight reel dunks that get the fans out of their seats. Vassell has shown the ability to space the floor, as he shot 41% from 3 this past college season. Vassell has worked on evolving his scoring and is more comfortable creating his own shot off the dribble. He is great at creating space for himself and his high release makes it difficult to contest his shots. He is a very unselfish team player who can make the right passes. It might take some time for Devin Vassell to gain consistency at the NBA level, but he has all the tools to be a very impactful player in the NBA.

13. New Orleans Pelicans: Aaron Nesmith (SF/SG, Vanderbilt, 20 years old)

The late 20's: Aaron Nesmith Scouting Report - Raptors Cage

The Pelicans already have their foundation of young players to lead their team for the next decade. This draft can be a great opportunity to get a young role player to complement their future stars. The Pelicans need a young sharpshooter to space the floor for guys like Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Aaron Nesmith is one of the best shooters in the draft and had an impressive percentage from behind the arc this past college season. He shot 52% from 3 on 8 attempts per game. Nesmith also shot 49% on spot up shots. He is a great off ball player which will benefit the playmakers and shot creators on the team. Nesmith has a quick and high shooting release which allows him to get his shot off in tight situations. He still needs improvement on the defensive end but has shown flashes of defensive potential due to his frame and basketball I.Q. Nesmith needs to develop a more all-around game but he will be an effective role player that will fit perfectly with the Pelicans young core. He will look to fit the J.J Redick role on the team once his time in New Orleans is up.

14. Portland Trailblazers: Precious Achiuwa (PF, Memphis, 20 years old)

Precious Achiuwa is a Memphis Tigers one-and-done who exceeded hype

The Portland Trailblazers have been one of the most disappointing teams of the 2019-2020 season. After making the Western Conference Finals in the 2019 playoffs, Portland has earned themselves a lottery pick just one year later. One of the reasons the Blazers struggled was their lack of wing and forward depth after losing Al-Farouq Aminu, Maurice Harkless and Jake Layman in free agency. The Blazers need to take the best wing or forward on the board with their 14th overall pick. I have the Trailblazers selecting Precious Achiuwa with the 14th pick. Precious is a 6″9 power forward with a long wingspan and lots of bulk. He is a great energy guy with great athleticism and explosiveness. The area he provides the most impact is the defensive side of the ball. He specializes in rebounding and shot blocking. Achiuwa averaged 11 rebounds and 2 blocks in college. He has a high motor on the defensive end and is great at attacking the basket in a pick and roll. Precious has shown the ability to finish at the rim but needs to work on his outside shot. He only shot 60% from the free throw line and only attempted 1 three pointer a game in college. If he can develop more of an outside shot, he can be a very effective 3 and D forward that can bring the Trailblazers back to the playoffs.

Top 10 Power Forwards of the 2019-2020 Season

The next installment of the SportSource NBA Top-10 lists brings us to the power forward spot. There are lots of young power forwards in today’s game who still have lots of room to grow. There are also players at this position who have established themselves as all-stars or even MVP caliber players. The power forward is one of the strongest positions in the NBA. This power forward ranking is also filled with tons of youth and depth.

When ranking the top 10 power forwards in the league, there are a few things to consider. The first is their stats, as well as overall impact and how they contribute to winning. The defensive side of the ball is also considered and can be a difference maker in comparing players who have a similar offensive impact.

This list is based off the 2019-2020 season, past seasons will not affect their ranking on the list. Their play will be evaluated strictly based off this season. Players like Zion Williamson will not be on this list due to injuries that either kept them out the whole season, or most of the season. Lastly, the way a player’s position is determined is based off what position Basketball Reference lists them under.

10. Tobias Harris

Tobias Harris is living up to his contract - Liberty Ballers

Tobias Harris has had a very inconsistent season with the 76ers. Last season we seen that Tobias Harris could be the main scorer on a successful team and be a borderline all-star player. However, in Philadelphia he hasn’t been incorporated effectively in the offence. There are lots of times on the court where he goes unnoticed. They don’t draw up many plays for him and most of the time he just stands in the corner to provide spacing. He is also the only player in the 76ers starting lineup who can create their own shot from the perimeter. Tobias Harris has proven that he is a good scorer that can consistently generate his own shot in the right system. It seems like he doesn’t fit in great with the 76ers. When the playoffs occur, Tobias Harris will be their X-factor and he will need to step up if the 76ers want to go on a deep playoff run.

9. Danilo Gallinari

Danilo Gallinari Prefers Games With No Fans If Coronavirus Continues

Danilo has had a great season with the Thunder and is playing his role great. He is providing a big impact to a team that has way surpassed expectations this season. The biggest concern for Gallinari throughout his career has been his injury concerns. This season he has been healthy and when he’s healthy, he can produce good scoring number on good efficiency. Even though he doesn’t get high assist numbers, he is still a very underrated playmaker and an unselfish player. He can do a bit of everything on the offensive side of the ball. He is a weak defender, but his scoring makes up for it. Danilo is a very valuable role player who might test his value in the open market for the 2020 NBA free agency. Danilo will receive lots of interest in free agency and might earn himself a huge contract.

8. John Collins

Hawks' John Collins Suspended 25 Games for Violating NBA's Anti ...

Collins missed 25 games this season due to a suspension but when he was on the court, he showed massive improvements. The biggest area in his game that improved was his shooting. He now shoots 40% from 3 on almost 4 attempts a game. Last season he shot almost 35% from 3 on 2.6 attempts per game. He is now more comfortable and more efficient from 3 and provides great spacing for Trae Young. He is very athletic and is a great combination of speed and strength and has a great vertical. Collins is a deadly pick and roll threat due to his ability to attack the basket and catch lobs. He is also a great pick and pop threat due to his improved 3-point shot. The weakest area of his game is his defence. He does have the athletic tools to be a good defender and averages 1.6 blocks this season from pure athleticism. Collins lacks defensive I.Q and is a bad defender in the pick and roll.He needs to mature on the defensive side of the ball and get a better understanding of where he needs to be on defence. The Hawks traded for Clint Capela to pair alongside Collins in the front court. Acquiring Capela will make up for Collins defence and maybe Capela could mentor Collins on the defensive side of the ball.

7. Kristaps Porzingis

Kristaps Porzingis ready for return to Madison Square Garden | NBA.com

This was Porzingis’s first season back after suffering a major ACL injury during the 2017-2018 season. He started off the season slow but started to pick it up and find his comfort zone towards the end of the season. Kristaps is one of the most unique players in the NBA. He’s a 7″3 player who can knock down shots consistently from deep. He attempts 7 3’s a game and shoots 35% from 3. He is also a great rim protector who averages 2 blocks a game and ranks top 10 in shots contested per game. Porzingis has gotten significantly stronger this season and is more aggressive at taking advantage of mismatches. For a player of his size, he needs to improve on his finishing. He only shoots 42% from the field as a player who is 7″3. He also needs to be a more consistent go to scorer for the Mavericks and return to his all-star self we had seen in New York.

6. Bam Adebayo

Heat center Bam Adebayo shows his Skills Challenge victory wasn't ...

Bam Adebayo is a leading most improved player candidate and made his first all star game this season.Bam is a unique player. He has great vision for his size and is averaging 5 assists a game as a big man. He is a great playmaker from the high post area, and he is a good ball handler for his size. Bam has also proven how impactful he is on the defensive side of the ball this season. He is very athletic, has a great motor and incredible hustle. Bam is undersized for his position, but he plays with a lot of heart and plays bigger than what he is. He is a very versatile defender who can defend the biggest players in the league, as well as having the ability to switch onto the perimeter and hold his own. He has all defensive team potential and is one of the most well-rounded big men in the NBA.

5. Brandon Ingram

Brandon Ingram on final year with Lakers: 'It wasn't always good'

Ingram has had an amazing season in his new environment. He has benefited from his new opportunity with the Pelicans. He has stepped up as the first option and was named to his first all-star team this season. Ingram showed flashes of greatness last season with the Lakers when he averaged 21.5 points per game during the last 20 games of the 2018-2019 season. This season he has been very consistent and has improved his game in almost everyway. He is being more aggressive and attacking the basket more, he’s drawing more fouls and shooting great from the free throw line. He has also improved defensively and is taking the big shots in the clutch. Ingram’s assist numbers have improved but he’s always been a good playmaker, this season he has just gotten more touches and more playmaking responsibilities. The area that he has improved in most is his 3-point shooting. He has never been a consistent 3-point shooter in his career but this season he is shooting 39% from 3 on 6 attempts per game. Last season he only shot 33% on 3’s with under 2 attempts a game. Ingram has also improved significantly in catch and shoot 3’s. Last season he only attempted 1.7 catch and shoot 3’s a game and shot 31%. This season he has been one of the best catch and shoot players in the league. He attempts 5 catch and shoot 3’s a game and shoots 42%. He is one of the most versatile young players in the league and has shown he can be a potential superstar.

4. Pascal Siakam

Rick Zamperin: NBA All-Star Pascal Siakam has only scratched the ...

The reigning most improved player Pascal Siakam took another huge leap this season. He was named to his first all star game this season and improved his points per game by almost 7. Before the season fans were questioning whether Siakam could step up as the first option. This season he has proven he can be the best player on a very successful team. He started off the season hot and was averaging 25 points per game but then he suffered a groin injury in December. After his injury he started to slow down and shoot less efficiently. Siakam is a good defensive player who can use his speed and defensive I.Q to guard the perimeter. He is one of the best players in transition, averaging 6 points and shooting 60% in transition. Siakam has taken his game to the next level this season and may still have another level he can reach.

3. Jayson Tatum

Locker Room: Jayson Tatum overcomes Kawhi Leonard in iconic ...

Jayson Tatum has improved a lot this season and is quickly approaching superstar status. He showed flashes of greatness during the playoffs in his rookie season but is now consistently putting up above 20 points a game. At the start of the season Tatum was the second option, but as the season has progressed, he has taken over as the go to guy for the Celtics. Tatum started gaining more national attention during the month of February where he averaged 31 points per game. He also had some big games during some tough opponents in the month of February. This included a nationally televised game against the Clippers where Tatum got 39 points and lead his team to the win. He also had another nationally televised game against the Lakers where Tatum dropped 41 points in a close loss. Tatum has done a great job at establishing himself in the NBA, as well as improving in many categories. He has improved his finishing at the rim and is playing more aggressive by attacking the basket more. Last season he averaged 5.6 drives per game and had 0.5 free throw attempts per game from drives. This season he is averaging 11 drives per game and has improved his ability to draw free throws when attacking the basket by averaging 2 free throws per game generated by drives. He has also improved his ability to create 3-point shots for himself and is now averaging 7 3-point attempts per game. Tatum has been playing great in big moments and in the clutch and can already be considered an elite scorer in the NBA.

2. Anthony Davis

Should Anthony Davis Have Stayed With New Orleans Pelicans ...

Anthony Davis goes unnoticed sometimes because he plays next to Lebron James, but he is still an MVP caliber player. Davis is playing great in his first season in Los Angeles. It’s a new situation for him not being the main guy on a team but now it is his first time in his career playing on a contending team. Him and Lebron have formed the best duo in the NBA and are the 1st seed in the western conference. Davis is an elite two-way player who is a top candidate for the defensive player of the year award. He ranks 1st in loose balls recovered, top 10 in shot contests per game, top 15 in steals and ranks 4th in blocks. The Lakers also have the 3rd ranked defence in the NBA with Anthony Davis being their defensive anchor. He has also improved his 3 point and free throw shooting this season. The biggest struggle for Davis this season has been playing without Lebron James on the court. He needs to step up when Lebron isn’t on the court with him and be more aggressive. He needs to be comfortable taking over as the main option when Lebron is on the bench. The Lakers also need to learn how to use Davis with Lebron off the court. Anthony Davis is still a very impactful player who is contributing on both ends of the court for a title favourite team.

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has social media, phone and bank ...

Giannis is not only the reigning MVP, but he’s also the favourite to take home the MVP award for this season. There’s nothing you can say about Giannis that hasn’t already been said. We are all aware of his greatness. He is not only the top MVP candidate but he’s also a candidate for defensive player of the year. He’s the best player on the team with the best record in the NBA. Giannis is putting up almost 30 points per game in only 30 minutes per game. The Bucks are so good that Giannis only needs to play 30 minutes a night because of how much they are beating teams by. The biggest problem with Giannis in his career has been his lack of shooting and it may have even costed them the series against Toronto in last years playoffs. This season Giannis has taken steps towards improving his shooting. Last season Giannis shot 26% from 3 on almost 3 attempts per game. This season Giannis is shooting 31% from 3 on almost 5 attempts per game. He’s been taking massive steps to improving his shooting and is making the defences respect him from the perimeter. Giannis is the most athletic player in the NBA and depending on how the playoffs go he could potentially claim the title as the best player in the league.

Top 10 Small Forwards of the 2019-2020 Season

The small forward position is one of the most versatile and important positions in the NBA. A small forward can have many roles on a team, such as being the best shooter on the team, the best defender who can also guard multiple positions, and can be the secondary ball handler.

With players like Lebron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo switching to different positions, the small forward position looks to be one of the weaker positions in the NBA. However, there is still some great all-stars on this list, as well as effective role players who contribute a high impact to a contending team.

When ranking the top 10 small forwards in the league, there are a few things to consider.

Players like Kevin Durant will not be on this list due to injuries that either kept them out the whole season, or most of the season. Lastly, the way a player’s position is determined is based off what position Basketball Reference lists them under.

10. Kelly Oubre

Image from CBS Sports

Kelly Oubre has taken a big jump as a player this year in his first full season with the Phoenix Suns. His role has been increased this season with Deandre Ayton missing lots of games due to his suspension. Oubre has stepped up and has been the second scoring option for the Suns. He is a great, energizer player who has had many highlight plays this season. He gives it his all on the defensive side of the ball each game, even on a team that is out of the playoff picture. Oubre is averaging 18.7 points per game this season with the best efficiency he has had in his career. Kelly Oubre isn’t a great shot creator, but he has a very high basketball I.Q and always seems to be at the right place at the right time on the basketball court. Kelly has been very clutch this season and has hit lots of shots in the clutch that has helped his team win.

9. Will Barton

Image from SportsNaut

Will Barton is a near perfect role player in the NBA due to his unselfishness and versatility. With the Nuggets this season, he has been the 3rd leading scorer on the team with 15.1 points per game. Some games, he even ranks 2nd or first in the teams scoring. Barton has been one of the Nuggets best defenders this season and due to his gritty style of play, he can guard players who are bigger than him. He also ranks third in assists for the Nuggets and has been a very good playmaking option to relieve pressure off Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. He is also a versatile scorer who can hit the 3 consistent and is a crafty inside finisher. Barton isn’t elite at one category, but he’s a great all-around player. Lots of teams would like to have a player like Will Barton on their team.

8. Gordon Hayward

Image from Forbes

Last season, Gordon Hayward was in his rehab season with the Celtics and had to find a way to score with all these offensive weapons on the team. This season Hayward has been playing really efficient and is playing his role perfectly. With great scorers like Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on the team, Hayward still finds a way to score and be effective with limited touches. Hayward can be a huge X factor for the Celtics in the playoffs. He hasn’t been the player the Celtics payed him to be, but he’s been playing his role very well

7. Bojan Bogdanovic

Image from EuroHoops

Most NBA fans thought that the Jazz biggest acquisition in the 2019 offseason was Mike Conley. This season, Bojan Bogdanovic is proving that he is the biggest acquisition for the Jazz in the 2019 offseason. Bojan has been another go to scorer on a Jazz team that struggles with scoring. He has been a great bright spot for the Jazz this season. He’s relieving scoring pressure off of Mitchell, especially in the clutch. Bojan has hit two game winners this year and has been very efficient when closing out games. Bogdanovic is a great floor spacer on a team with not a lot of spacing. He is shooting 41.4% from 3 this season on 7.3 attempts per game. He has also been a good defender for the Jazz this season. Bojan has been a great fit with the Utah Jazz this season and doesn’t do much wrong on the court.

6. Demar Derozan

Image from CBS Sports

Demar DeRozan is one of the most confusing players on this list. This season he didn’t seem like he fit in with the Spurs team culture. He seemed unhappy in San Antonio and will most likely hit the open market in the 2020 offseason. Derozan needs a different environment. He is a really good player who is great at creating his own shot, but he has shown that his game style doesn’t translate to much success in the modern NBA. Derozan is an awful 3-point shooter that doesn’t provide spacing to his team. He is a ball stopper and his game heavily relies on isolations for himself. If his shots aren’t falling, he doesn’t provide much else for his team. Due to his playstyle, he doesn’t fit next to other stars, but he’s not talented enough to lead his own team to much success. Despite his criticism, Derozan is still a borderline all-star caliber player who is coming off the most efficient season in his career.

5. Jaylen Brown

Image from CBS Sports

Jaylen Brown is the youngest player on this list and still has lots of room to grow. He has amazing two-way ability and has high basketball knowledge. He brings great energy on both sides of the ball. Even with players like Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum on his team, he still finds a way to shine and average 20 points per game. He plays perfectly in his role and can seamlessly fit on the most NBA teams. Since he’s behind two all stars, we haven’t seen what he’s fully capable of: he needs to get more opportunities to grow.

4. Paul George

Image from ESPN

Paul George has been battling injuries this season but is still averaging good numbers on a down year. This is the first time in a while that we have seen Paul George as a second option. He’s Kawhi’s sidekick on a top contending team in the league. Although he isn’t the MVP candidate he was last year, he’s still averaging 21 points and almost 6 rebounds a game. His elite defensive play still puts him high on this list, despite his inconsistencies on offence throughout the season.

3. Khris Middleton

Image from Today’s TMJ4

Choosing between Middleton and Paul George was a very difficult task. Both players have put up very similar stats, both posting a stat line of about 21 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game. Middleton’s efficiency is one reason why he edges out Paul George. Middleton is 0.01 percent field goal shooting away from joining the elite 50/40/90 club. He has also been very consistent throughout the season and has been a big part of the Buck’s success. Middleton is also great all-around player and has been playing great defensively. Middleton is mostly in the shadow of Giannis, but he is still one of the best, most reliable side kicks in the NBA.

2. Jimmy Butler

Image from Bleacher Report

Jimmy Butler has been an amazing fit with the Miami Heat this season, both on and off the court. He fits the Heat culture perfectly and has elevated them from a borderline playoff team, to a top team in the eastern conference. Jimmy is an amazing player who is a great locker room presence. He has helped mentor the young players and leads his team by example. He is one of the hardest working players in the NBA and motivates everyone on his team to work harder. As for his on the court play, Jimmy is still an elite defender. He ranks top 10 in steals, deflections and loose balls recovered. On the offensive end, Jimmy has started to round out his game. He’s playing more unselfish and is averaging a career high 6.1 assists per game. Although Jimmy has been shooting atrocious from 3-point range and hasn’t been playing as good in the clutch as he usually does, you still have to recognize and appreciate the tremendous impact Jimmy Butler has had this season.

1. Kawhi Leonard

Image from Bleacher Report

This selection should be a consensus across NBA fans. Kawhi is not only the best small forward in the NBA, but he’s also debatably the best player in the league. He is the reigning finals MVP and is currently the top player on one of the top teams in the NBA. Kawhi is a great shot creator and is one of the best midrange shooters in the NBA. He is averaging a career high in scoring this season with 26.9 points per game. He has also improved his playmaking and is averaging 5 assists per game. The most elite part of Kawhi’s game is his defence. He is the best perimeter defender in the NBA and most people would argue he is the best defender in the league. He ranks top 5 in steals, deflections and will most likely be named to his 6th all defensive team. Kawhi is also a great leader for the Clippers and is the best two-way player in the NBA.

Top 10 Shooting Guards of the 2019-2020 Season

The Shooting Guard is one of the most versatile positions in the NBA. A shooting guard on a team can have multiple roles. They could be the team’s best perimeter defender and guard the opposing teams best player. They can be the go-to scorer on a team and lead the team in points or be the secondary ballhandler. In some cases, they can be the team’s primary playmaker and ballhandler.

When ranking the top 10 shooting guards in the league, there are a few things to consider. The first is their stats, as well as their overall impact and if they are a winning player. The defensive side of the ball is also considered and can be the difference maker between two players who are similar in terms of offensive impact.

This list is based off the 2019-2020 season, past seasons will not affect their ranking on the list. Their play is evaluated strictly based off this season. Players like Klay Thompson and Victor Oladipo will not be on this list due to injuries that either kept them out the whole season, or most of the season. Lastly, the way a player’s position is determined is based off what position Basketball Reference lists them under.

10. Buddy Hield

We have the 2020 NBA 3-point contest winner Buddy Hield at number 10 on our list. Buddy Hield has been starting for the Kings as well as coming off the bench for them this season. Some people have speculated that Buddy Hield may be unhappy in his bench role and may request a trade this offseason. Although Buddy wants to start, he thrives in that 6th man role. When Hield is coming off the bench, he’s averaging an absurd 46.5% from 3-point range with 9 attempts a game. He is more efficient when coming off the bench and has a positive plus minus. The Kings also have a record of 13-7 with Hield coming off the bench. Hield is one of the best shooters in the league and shoots almost 40 percent from 3 with almost 10 3 point attempts a game. Buddy Hield is a great scorer but if he’s not scoring, then he’s not doing much else for his team.

9. Spencer Dinwiddie

Dinwiddie is a 6″6 point guard who can attack the basket and finish well, as well as being a great primary playmaker. This season, Dinwiddie has proven he can be a good starter or be effective coming off the bench. Dinwiddie has been doing a great job this season of keeping his team in the playoffs, even in the absence of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. He’s been a big bright spot for the Brooklyn Nets this season. He has stepped up with Kyrie Irving out for most of the season and has taken lots of big shots in the clutch for the Nets. This season Dinwiddie has been putting up career numbers of 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per game. Dinwiddie has boosted his value as a potential trade piece or has proven he can be a valuable player next to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant when they return next season.

8. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Shai has improved majorly since last season and has seen his role increase in his sophomore season. Shai’s playstyle is very reminiscent of a veteran’s playstyle. He’s always in control of the game. Most young players that enter the league are not in control of the game and not in control of themselves, and often make bad passes or bad shots. Shai doesn’t let the game control him, he controls the game. Shai always plays at the perfect pace. His incredible length allows him to be a great perimeter defender. Shai has seamlessly transitioned from a point guard to a shooting guard. He has taken a big scoring leap and has went from 10.8 points to 19.3 points per game. He has taken the next leap as a scorer this season and will polish his scoring game in future seasons. Although Shai has a slow release when it comes to his jump shot, he can use his great handles to create enough space he needs to get his shot off. Being mentored by Chris Paul this season, has really helped his game flourish. He will only improve as a player with time and might see a role increase later in his career.

7. CJ McCollum

CJ McCollum has had a similar season compared to his past 3 seasons. He’s been very consistent. CJ has been a great secondary ball handler and secondary shot creator next to Damian Lillard. When Lillard missed 6 consecutive games at the end of February, CJ stepped up as the leader of the team. In that 6 game span, CJ averaged 33.3 points and 7.5 assists a game along with a 2-4 record. Although the Trailblazers didn’t have a positive record with Lillard out, CJ proved he could be a great scoring option to rely on to relieve some pressure off Lillard. CJ has been a great second option to Lillard. CJ is unselfish, reliable and consistent. He puts up all star numbers but will most likely never be named an all-star. CJ has improved his playmaking this season. Last season he averaged 3 assists and this season he averages 4.3 assists per game. CJ has been one of the best catch and shoot players this season and is shooting 47% on catch and shoot 3’s. What brings CJ down on this list is his bad defensive play. CJ is a 6″3 scrawny shooting guard who is put up against the best scorers in the league. The other drawback for CJ is his situation. Lots of the players above him are similar players, but they are the clear go to scorer on their team. Although CJ is a great second option, if he was in a situation where he was the go-to scorer on a team, then maybe he would be higher on this list.

6. Zach Lavine

Although Chicago has had a disappointing season, Lavine is starting to round his game out more. He’s improving defensively but he’s still not great. He’s a decent on ball defender but is a lazy off ball defender. If Lavine had a respectable coach, he would put more effort on the defensive end. If he was on a winning team that was playing towards something, then I believe he would try more on defence. He is a decent playmaker but he sometimes gets tunnel vision when attacking the basket and doesn’t find his open players on the perimeter. Lavine also turns the ball over a lot. Lavine has been improving every season and is still a great scorer. He’s averaging an impressive 25.5 points per game and ranks 12th in the NBA for points per game. Lavine has been one of the few bright spots on the Bulls this season. Chicago hasn’t put good players around Lavine. They haven’t surrounded Lavine with players that compliment him very well. In the future, hopefully the Bulls can do a better job surrounding Lavine with more talent so that he can be in the playoffs.

5. Jrue Holiday

Jrue has taken a back seat this season to let his teammates thrive. His unselfishness has allowed players like Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson to live up to their potential. He’s been the glue that’s held this team together. The Pelicans are a very young team, and Jrue’s leadership has helped the young players blossom. Jrue also helps the team run smoothly and is a great facilitator. While taking a back seat, he’s still putting up almost 20 points and 7 assists per game. What gives Jrue the edge over players ranked below him is his defence. Jrue is 6th in the NBA for steals per game and will most likely make an all defensive team. He is great at attacking the basket and is an efficient finisher. Jrue Holiday is a versatile shooting guard who can be the primary playmaker, finish at the rim, shoot 3 pointers and defend the opposing team’s best perimeter player night in and night out.

4. Donovan Mitchell

Statistically, Donovan Mitchell hasn’t taken a big jump in his game. Mitchell has showed great improvement this season in categories that can’t be determined by the box score. He has improved in controlling the game and making smart decisions. Mike Conley has been very disappointing this season, but Donovan Mitchell has stepped up. Donovan Mitchell has improved as a leader on and off the court. Mitchell hasn’t been attacking the basket as much, but he’s finishing more efficiently. He has also improved his efficiency from 3 and from the free throw line. Mitchell has been very consistent this season and hasn’t had many struggles. He has been making big plays in the clutch, whether that be the last shot, or trusting a player like Bojan Bogdanovic with the last shot. Mitchell made his first all star appearance at the age of 23 and has many more all star selections in his future.

3. Devin Booker

The biggest knack on Booker has been his lack of team success. In his previous 4 seasons with the Suns, they never finished with more than 23 wins and have been at the bottom of the league every year in Bookers career. This year, the Suns already have 26 wins and have been moving in the right direction. Adding Rubio in the offseason has benefitted Booker tremendously. Rubio helped relieve Booker of playmaking responsibilities and Rubio has helped control the game for Booker. Deandre Ayton’s 25 game suspension pushed this team back from reaching their full potential. The Suns starting lineup is one of the best starting fives when they are on the court together. The Suns started out 7-4 but quickly fell off due to the loss of Ayton. Some people try to discredit Booker’s insane statistics by saying that he puts up those numbers because he’s taking a high volume of shots. Some people have even gone as far as saying that he wouldn’t be nearly as good if he was on a winning team with good support around him. This season Booker has proved he can put up good numbers when his team is winning. When the Suns started out 7-4, Booker was averaging 25.5 points and 5.9 assists in that span. He also had a plus minus rating of +8.3. Booker has also been very efficient this season and is almost a part of the 50/40/90 club. Booker is an elite scorer who is starting to round his game out and has been the Suns go-to scorer since his sophomore season.

2. Bradley Beal

Beal has been one of the best scorers of this NBA season. He’s averaging 30.5 points per game, but yet still didn’t make the all-star game. Beal has had 10 games where he has scored at least 40 points, and he also dropped 50 points in two back to back games. In the absence of John Wall, Bradley Beal has expanded his game. He went from John Wall’s sidekick, to the leader of the Wizards. Beal has turned from an elite spot up shooter, to an elite overall scorer. He is attacking the basket more, taking more midrange shots and taking over as the primary ball handler. When John Wall returns next season, the Wizards team will be elevated and could possibly make the playoffs. When Wall comes back, him and Beal will form one of the best backcourts in the NBA.

1. James Harden

This selection shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. There is a significant gap between Harden and Beal. Harden is clearly the best shooting guard this season. He started out the first 3 months of the season averaging 37.9 points per game. There were talks that Harden could potentially average 40 points per game this season. He started to slow down in the month of January. James Harden is such an amazing scorer. So great that him averaging 28.6 points in the month of January was considered a down month for Harden. We have become so accustomed to Harden scoring 50 points in a game, that we aren’t even phased when Harden scores more than 50 in a game. Harden has had 5 50 point games this season, as well as multiple 40 point games. Harden is one of, if not the most unstoppable player in the NBA. He’s always been the leader on good teams and this season is no different. The Rockets are the 6th seed in the western conference and are 2 games back from the 4th seed. The biggest criticism that Harden has faced throughout his career has been his inability to lead his team to an NBA finals. With the Rockets extreme small ball offence, now is the chance for Harden to prove the doubters wrong by winning the NBA championship.

Top 10 Point Guards of the 2019-2020 Season

The Point Guard position is the most important position in basketball. Every team needs to have a good point guard to contend for the championship. A great point guard can elevate a mediocre team into a top team. Point guards traditionally run the offense and are the main facilitators on their teams. They are generally the on-court leaders as well as the off-court leaders of their teams.

The point guard is the deepest position in the NBA. Out of the 5 positions, this is the hardest one to rank, because of the depth at the point guard position. The point guard position is also filled with a lot of youth. Lots of the top point guards have only been in the league for a couple of seasons.

When ranking the top point guards in the league there are a few things to consider. The first is stats, as well as overall impact and team success as well as their play on both sides of the ball. This list ranks the point guards off their play of the 2019-2020 season. Past seasons do not affect their rankings on this list. Players like Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving and John Wall will not be on this list due to injuries. The way positions are determined are based off Basketball Reference.

10. Ja Morant

In his rookie season, Ja Morant already makes the top 10 point guards list. The Memphis Grizzlies were expected to win under 30 games this season but Morant has led them to a playoff spot as a rookie. The point guard position is the hardest position to succeed in as a rookie, and Morant has shown no signs of hitting the rookie wall that most rookies hit. He has been very consistent and hasn’t had a major slump this season. Morant is shooting above league average from the field as a point guard, and he is also shooting above league average from 3-point range this season. Morant is the favorite for the rookie of the year award and is only going to get better in future seasons.

9. Kemba Walker

Although Kemba Walker was named an All-Star starter this season, he still only places as the 9th best point guard. His role has adapted a lot since last season. Last season when he was with the Charlotte Hornets, he was their go-to scorer and took a high volume of their shots. This season, he’s has taken a step back to let the young stars on the Boston Celtics shine, such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Kemba is still being very productive and efficient. He’s averaging 21.2 points and 4.9 assists per game with 42% from the field and 38% from 3. Walker has been a key contributor on a winning team. He has been a great leader and team player for the Celtics and he’s doing what he needs to do for the Celtics to win. Walker has also been putting in more effort on the defensive side of the ball this season and fitting perfectly into the Celtics system. Walker hasn’t been playing the same after his knee injury he suffered in February, but he is still a great all-around point guard who is playing a huge role for the Celtics success this season.

8. Kyle Lowry

The Toronto Raptors have a record of 46-18 and are the second seed in the Eastern Conference, even after losing Kawhi Leonard in the offseason. Lots of the Raptors success this season can be credited to Kyle Lowry. The Raptors have faced lots of injuries this season, but Lowry has been the glue that’s held this team together. He’s been a great leader for the Raptors and is averaging 19.7 points and 7.7 assists this season. What gives Lowry the edge over Kemba Walker is his defensive play. Lowry is a great defender and his gritty play helps the Raptors have the best ranked defense in the NBA. Lowry ranks among the top of the league in charges drawn and is still playing at an all-star level at the age of 34.

7. Trae Young

The Atlanta Hawks have a record of 20-47 and are among the bottom of the league. Their young point guard struggles on defense. Although this list heavily values defense and winning, you can’t deny Trae Young’s talent. Young is having an amazing individual season. He’s averaging 29.6 points at the age of 21, improving his points average by 10 this season. Young doesn’t have a lot of help around him, but he still averages 9.3 assists per game. Once the players around him develop more, those assists number are only going to go up.

He is the face of the Hawks and is helping them have an identity. This team is very young and is only going to improve in future seasons. Young has put up impressive numbers while dealing with opposing teams sending double teams at him. Although the Hawks don’t have a great record, they are still one of the most fun teams to watch because of Young. He has so much swagger and confidence and he’s only going to be ranked higher on this list in the future.

6. Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons is very limited on offense due to his unwillingness to attempt a jump shot. Despite this, Simmons is still an all-star player. He took a huge step on the defensive end this season. Simmons has proven himself as an elite defender this season; he will without a doubt be named to an all-NBA defensive team. Simmons is also an elite passer and floor general. He’s been clutch for the Philadelphia 76ers this season. When Joel Embiid suffered an injury in early January and missed 9 games, Simmons averaged 21.5 points, 7.8 assists, 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals. The 76ers also went 6-3 in this span. Simmons proved he can be a player you can build around successfully. He’s still young and has lots of time to improve and further develop his game.

5. Chris Paul

Going into this season, The OKC Thunder had very low expectations. They weren’t expected to be a playoff team; now they’re the 5th seed in a stacked western conference. Lots of this can be due to the leadership and phenomenal play of Chris Paul. When he was dealt to the Thunder, lots of people were writing off him as washed and overpaid, while many were even saying the Thunder should trade him. Paul has proven the doubters wrong and has been a great mentor and leader for this Thunder team. He’s helped the development of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and has helped establish a winning culture in Oklahoma. Paul has been one of the most clutch players in the NBA this season and has helped the Thunder in crunch time scenarios. Paul has been a very impactful player and has been one of the biggest surprises this season.

4. Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard is having an MVP caliber season. He’s having a career high in points, assists, field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. He is averaging the 5th most points this season with 28.9 points per game and the 6th most assists this season with 7.8 assists per game. The Trailblazers are the 9th seed in the western conference this season. They have been struggling with injuries this season but Lillard has kept his team in the playoff hunt. If the Trailblazers had a better record, Dame would be in the MVP discussion. Lillard had a crazy 10 game span in January where he averaged 41.6 points per game. He can effortlessly create his own shot, as well as creating shots for his teammates. Lillard is easily an elite point guard and is having an MVP type season.

3. Russell Westbrook

Before the season started, there were questions of if the duo of Russel Westbrook and James Harden would translate to wins and if they could play well together on the court. Westbrook started out slow for the first 2 months of the season, so he reinvented his game midseason. He started attempting less 3’s and attempted more midranges and drives. Westbrook cut his 3-point attempts from 5 a game to 3. Westbrook increased his drives per game and leads the league in drives and leads the league in field goals made on drives. The Houston Rockets even traded starting center Clint Capela and converted to a 5-out offense to better support Westbrook.

There has been times this season where Westbrook has looked like the Rockets best player. When Harden’s having a bad game, it’s nice to have Westbrook who you can rely on to get you the win. Once Harden and Westbrook click at the same time, they’ll be a major threat to look out for.

2. Luka Doncic

At 21 years old, Luka Doncic is leading the Dallas Mavericks offense to the highest offensive rating in NBA history. He has shown massive improvement this season, taking a 7 point jump in points per game and improving his assists by 2.7. Doncic and the Mavs have the 7th seed in the western conference, and are only 2 wins behind the 4th seed. Doncic is a player who makes everyone around him better. Players like Maxi Kleber and Seth Curry are having career years, while others such as Tim Hardaway Jr and Dwight Powell are having career years in efficiency.

Doncic has been very consistent this season. He’s only had 3 games this whole season where he scored under 20 points. One of them he scored 19 points and another game he only played 1 minute before he left the game with an injury. He doesn’t rely heavily on athleticism and knows how to get to any spot he wants on the court. At the age of 21, Doncic is already an elite player and has the potential to be the best player in the league.

1. Lebron James

Lebron James has always been the primary ball handler for his team throughout his career, but this season is his first year playing the point guard position. This is his first season averaging above 10 assists per game as well as his first time leading the league in assists. The Lakers have an 8.1 differential rating with James on the court and a net rating of 10.3. He’s the consensus second choice in the MVP race behind Giannis Antetokounmpo. James has led his team to the best record in the western conference even at the age of 35. James has been the best player in the league for about a decade and is currently the best point guard in the NBA.

The Best Player Ever from Every NBA Franchise

Every NBA franchise has their own best player in the team’s history. Some teams have one player in their history that stands out above the rest and other franchises have multiple players that could be deserving of the title as the best player in their teams history. A combination of personal success and team success, as well as overall impact and legacy on their team’s franchise, played a huge factor for each player being selected. Another factor that was considered was longevity. Lastly, this list is chosen off of the success that player had with that particular franchise. Player’s accolades on different team’s do not help them be named the best for one certain franchise.

Philadelphia 76ers- Julius Erving

Although Iverson is the bigger face of the 76ers franchise, Julius Erving did win an MVP with the 76ers in the 1980-1981 season. Julius played with Philadelphia for 11 seasons and was named an all- star in every season with Philadelphia. Julius Erving was chosen to 5 NBA first teams and 2 all NBA second teams as a member of the 76ers. He also did something Iverson could not, win a championship with the 76ers. Julius didn’t win the finals MVP but his consistency, scoring and him winning a championship gives him the edge over Allen Iverson.

Milwaukee Bucks- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

There’s no doubt Kareem earns this spot. Kareem is one of the greatest centers of all time and he dominated immediately when he entered the league. Even though Kareem’s accomplishments on the Bucks are overshadowed by his success with the Lakers, Kareem still averaged 30.4 points and 15.3 rebounds in 6 seasons with the Bucks. Kareem also brought the Bucks franchise their only championship. Kareem won 3 MVP’s, had 6 all-star appearances, and made 4 all defense teams as a member of the Bucks. Giannis has the potential to pass Kareem as the greatest Bucks player ever, but as of right now, it’s Kareem.

Chicago Bulls- Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan is considered to be the best player of all time by most, so it’s no surprise he’s the best player in Bulls history. There’s nothing to say that hasn’t already been said. Jordan is the most dynamic scorer the league has ever seen, is an elite two way player and holds countless records with the Chicago Bulls. MJ has won the Bulls all of their franchises championships and has won 5 MVP’s along side 14 all-star selections as a member of the Bulls. Jordan completely dominated an era of basketball and he also dominates the Chicago Bulls records.

Cleveland Cavaliers- Lebron James

Just like the Bulls, this is also a no brainer selection. Lebron holds countless records with the Cavaliers. Lebron also brought Cleveland their first and only championship. With his time on the Cavaliers, Lebron has won 2 MVP’s along with multiple finals appearances and all-star selections. No one in the history of the Cavaliers has even come close to Lebron James’s talent level and pure dominance.

Boston Celtics- Bill Russell

This was one of the toughest decisions to make on the list of who’s the best Celtics player of all time. Larry Bird or Bill Russell. I decided to go with Bill Russell. Bill is the winningest player in basketball history, as well as a pioneer for the game of basketball. He won 5 MVP’s with the Celtics and was a 12 time all-star. Bill is also known as one of the best defenders ever. Bill Russell helped Boston establish one of the best franchises in NBA history.

LA Clippers- Bob McAdoo

The Clippers don’t have a large selection of hall of famers to choose from, unlike their rivals the Lakers. They still have Bob McAdoo who won an MVP during the 1974-1975 season, as a member of the Buffalo Braves. McAdoo only played with the Clippers franchise for 5 seasons, but he was named an all-star 4 times and made 2 all NBA teams with the Clipper’s. McAdoo has 3 scoring titles with the Clippers and averaged above 30 points per game in 3 consecutive seasons.

Memphis Grizzlies- Marc Gasol

Marc Gasol played a huge part in establishing a winning culture in Memphis during their grit and grind era. Gasol is the only player who’s made multiple all-star teams as a member of the Grizzlies. He made the All NBA first team in the 2014-2015 season, as well as winning the defensive player of the year award in the 2012-2013 season. Marc Gasol is one of the most well rounded centers in NBA history. He became a consistent 3 point shooter later in his career, was an elite defender for multiple seasons and is one of the best passing big men of all time.

Atlanta Hawks- Bob Petit

Dominique Wilkins may be the more recognizable Hawks legend, but Petit brought more success to the Hawks franchise than Wilkins did. Petit led the Hawks to 4 finals appearances and even won the Hawks their only championship in franchise history. Petit also found individual success with the Hawks franchise. He won 2 league MVP’s as a member of the Hawks. Petit lead the league in scoring twice and was named an all-star in every season of his career with the Hawks. Wilkins may be the flashiest Atlanta Hawk player ever, but Petit is the best, both as an individual player and a team player.

Miami Heat- Dwyane Wade

It’s very difficult to not put Wade as the best Heat player of all time. Some could argue Lebron is the best Miami Heat player ever. Lebron James was in the prime of his career with the Heat. He made 4 straight NBA finals, won 2 MVP’s, 2 finals MVP’s and 2 championships with the Heat. Lebron only played with the Heat for 4 seasons. Wade played for 15 seasons with the Heat and is the most loved player in their franchise’s history. Before Lebron joined Miami, Wade won a championship with the Heat and won the finals MVP. Wade led the league in scoring during the 2008-2009 season as well as having 13 all-star appearances as a member of the Heat. Wade is considered by most to be the 3rd best shooting guard in NBA history, behind Jordan and Kobe. Lebron may be the most dominant player to ever play for the Heat, but Wade is the best Miami Heat player of all time.

Charlotte Hornets- Kemba Walker

The Hornets probably are one of the weakest franchise in the NBA, due to their short team history. When it comes to their best player of all time, the Hornets really haven’t had any notable players who’ve stood out as all-time greats. Kemba was the heart and soul of the Hornets franchise for 8 seasons. Kemba Walker is the franchise’s leader in points, 3 pointers made, and games played. He also has the 2nd most assists total in the Hornet’s franchise. Kemba made 3 all-star games with the Hornets and made them worth watching during his 8 year career with the Hornets. Larry Johnson and Glen Rice both had great short stints with the Hornets, but Kemba is the best in the franchise’s history.

Utah Jazz- Karl Malone

Karl Malone is known as one of the greatest power forwards of all time. Malone has the 2nd most points in NBA history, but surprising never led the league in scoring. He played with the Jazz for an incredible 18 seasons and was named an all-star 14 times. He won 2 MVP’s with the Jazz and made the all-defensive team 4 times in his career with the Jazz. Malone was one of the best inside scorers of all time. Malone was one of the most dominant pick and roll players in NBA history. Stockton and Malone together formed one of the greatest duos in NBA history, but for the greatest Jazz player of all time, I give the edge to Malone.

Sacramento Kings- Oscar Robertson

Nobody in King’s franchise history comes close to the Big-O. Robertson is the franchise leader in points and assists. During his prime in Sacramento, he led the league in assists 7 times and won an MVP award. Oscar also averaged a triple double during the 1961-1962 season and was 0.1 rebounds shy from averaging a triple double during the 1963-1964 season. Oscar Robertson is one of the best point guards of all time and deserves the title of the best Sacramento Kings player ever.

New York Knicks- Patrick Ewing

This was a close race between Walt Frazier and Patrick Ewing. Both are hall of famers and staples with Knicks basketball, but I gave the slight edge to Ewing. Ewing played more seasons with the Knicks and had more individual success than Frazier. You could make the argument that Frazier has the edge over Ewing because he won the Knicks 2 championships. Frazier won 2 championships and was a key part of the Knicks championships, but he never won the finals MVP. Although Ewing never won a ring, he was a victim to the Michael Jordan era of basketball. Although he never won the championship, Ewing did come close. In the 1994 NBA Finals, the Knicks lost to the Rockets in game 7 with a score of 90-84. The Knicks made another finals appearance during the 1999 NBA Finals but Ewing did not play in the finals due to an Achilles injury. Ewing is an 11 time all-star, made an all NBA team 7 times with the Knicks, and made 3 all defensive teams. Patrick Ewing is the greatest Knick of all time and the face of New York basketball.

Los Angeles Lakers- Magic Johnson

The Lakers have so many hall of famers to choose from for this spot. They’ve had legends such as Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem, Jerry West, George Mikan, Elgin Baylor and Kobe Bryant. Ultimately, I decided to go with Magic. Even though Shaquille O’Neal and even Magic Johnson have stated that Kobe is the greatest Laker player of all time, I still went with Magic. It was very close between Magic and Kobe. Both have won 5 championships, but Magic has 3 finals MVP awards and Kobe has 2. Magic has 9 finals appearances and Kobe has 7. Magic led the league in assists 4 times and led the league in steals twice. Kobe has more all NBA teams, all-star appearances and more defensive teams than Magic. This is because Kobe played in 7 more seasons than Magic Johnson. Magic is still the greatest passer and greatest playmaker of all time. Magic having more finals MVP’s, more finals appearances and more MVP’s gives him the slight edge over Kobe. Kobe may be the most loved Laker of all time, but Magic Johnson was the best.

Orlando Magic- Dwight Howard

Which Superman is the best Magic player ever? Shaquille O’Neal or Dwight Howard? Both players were elite dominant centers with their time on the Magic and they even both made the finals with the Magic. Even though Shaquille O’Neal is a better all time player, Dwight is the best Magic player of all time. Dwight made the all NBA first team for 5 seasons in a row. He was the best center in the league when he was with the Magic. Dwight also won the defensive player of the year award 3 seasons in a row with Orlando. Dwight was 23 years old when he played Lebron James in the Eastern Conference Finals, during Lebron’s MVP season. The Magic, led by Dwight beat an MVP Lebron to move on to the NBA finals. Shaquille O’Neal did make the finals with the Magic in 1995, but he only played 4 seasons with the Magic and Dwight played 8. Shaq had a better career overall than Dwight, but Dwight accomplished more while on the Magic.

Dallas Mavericks- Dirk Nowitzki

Dirk is undoubtedly the best player in Mavericks history. Dirk played with the Mavericks for an astonishing 21 seasons. He was a 14 time all-star and made an all NBA team 12 times in his career. Dirk also led the Mavericks to their 2 only finals appearances in franchise history. He even won a championship with the Mavericks and won the finals MVP. Dirk Nowitzki also won a regular season MVP award during the 2006-2007 season. Dirk is the best shooting big man in NBA history and paved the way for 3 point shooting big men. He also paved the way for international players in the NBA. Dirk Nowitzki is their best player in the team’s history and loved by the city of Dallas.

Brooklyn Nets- Jason Kidd

Although Jason Kidd’s time in Brooklyn only lasted 7 seasons, he still had a huge impact on the Nets franchise. The season prior to acquiring Kidd, they won a mere 26 games. The following season, with the addition of Kidd, the Nets made the NBA finals. Kidd also led the Nets to the finals the next season. He led the league in assists twice with the Nets, and made the all NBA first team twice. Kidd made 6 all defensive teams with the Nets and was a great floor general during his tenure in Brooklyn.

Denver Nuggets- Alex English

It’s hard to argue that Alex English isn’t the best player in Nuggets franchise history. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in points, games played, assists, minutes played, field goals attempted and field goals made. Alex English led the league in scoring during the 1982-1983 season. He made 8 all-star appearances with the Nuggets, and made an all NBA team three times. English led the Nuggets to the conference finals during the 1984-1985 season. English places 20th on the all-time scoring list and is the best Nuggets player of all time.

Indiana Pacers- Reggie Miller

Reggie Miller is best known for his incredible 3 point shooting and him scoring 8 points in 9 seconds during a playoff game. He also spent his whole career in Indiana. Reggie was a 5 time all-star and made the all NBA third team 3 times. Reggie Miller led the Pacers to the conference finals 5 times and even led the Pacers to the NBA finals in the 1999-2000 season. He is the Pacers all-time leader in points, assists, steals, 3 pointers made and many more. Miller had such a huge impact on the Pacers franchise, he took the team to places they have never seen before and put Indiana basketball on the map.

New Orleans Pelicans- Chris Paul

The Pelicans franchise has only been around for 18 seasons and have never made it past the second round of the playoffs. The closest they’ve ever been to the conference finals was during the 2008 playoffs when they lost in game 7 to the San Antonio Spurs. The Pelicans team was led by Chris Paul, who just led his team to 56 wins. Chris Paul was second in MVP voting that season, and some people argue he should have won the award. He led the league in assists twice and led the league in steals three times during his time with New Orleans. Chris was a 4 time all-star, made 3 all NBA teams and made an NBA defensive team, during his time with the Pelicans. Chris Paul brought success to New Orleans and proved himself as an amazing teammate who made the others around him better.

Detroit Pistons- Isiah Thomas

Isiah Thomas was the leader of the Bad Boy Piston era in Detroit. Thomas led the Pistons to back to back championships and even though he only has 1 finals MVP, he was still the best player on both championship teams. Isiah played his whole career in Detroit and was named to 12 all-star games and made 5 all NBA teams in his career. Isiah is the Pistons all-time leader in assists and even led the league in assists during the 1984-1985 season. He averaged 13.9 assists that season. He also is he Pistons all-time leader in points and steals. There is no greater player in Pistons history

Toronto Raptors- Vince Carter

Vince Carter may not have made it past the second round with the Raptors. Vince may not be the all-time leader in points but he is still the best scorer in Raptors history. Carter made 6 all-star games with the Raptors and made 2 all NBA teams. Vince’s high flying put the Raptors and Canadian basketball on the map. Vince was half man, half amazing.

Houston Rockets- Hakeem Olajuwon

Hakeem is by far the best player in Rockets history. He led Houston to their only 2 titles in franchise history and won finals MVP’s in both championship runs. Hakeem won 2 defensive player of the year awards in his career and is the only player in NBA history to win the MVP, DPOY and Finals MVP in the same season. Hakeem played 17 seasons with the Rockets. In those 17 seasons, Hakeem was a 12 time all-star, made 12 all NBA teams, 9 all NBA defensive teams, lead the league in blocks 3 times and lead the league in rebounds twice. Hakeem even has a post move named after him, the Dream Shake. Hakeem is one of the best centers of all time, as well as undoubtedly the best Rockets player of all time.

San Antonio Spurs- Tim Duncan

Tim Duncan has been the key to the Spurs being one of the best franchises in the NBA. Duncan has one of the best winning percentages by an individual player. Duncan leads the Spurs franchise in numerous statistical categories and played with the Spurs for 19 seasons. During his career, Duncan was a 15 time all-star and made 15 all NBA teams, including his 10 NBA first team selections. Tim won 5 championships with the Spurs, and Duncan never missed the playoffs during his career with the Spurs. Duncan made 15 all NBA defensive teams, but surprisingly never won a defensive player of the year award. Duncan is a two time MVP and is known as the consensus best power forward of all time.

Phoenix Suns- Steve Nash

Although Nash never led the Suns to a championship, he led the Suns to 3 conference finals appearances. Nash was never a lockdown defender, but he made up for it with his incredible offensive impact. Nash led the league in assists 5 times with Phoenix and averaged 9.4 assists during his time with the Suns. Steve Nash made the 50/40/90 club 4 times with the Suns and won 2 MVP’s. Nash completely changed the NBA and how it’s played today. Nash sped up the pace of basketball and paved the way for smaller guards to succeed in the NBA.

Oklahoma City Thunder- Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant’s departure from OKC gave fans a bad image of Durant, but you can’t deny his great career in Oklahoma. Durant spent 9 seasons with the Thunder and led them to 3 conference finals and 1 NBA finals appearance. Durant led the league in scoring 4 times with the Thunder and even won the MVP in the 2013-2014 season. KD was a 7 all-star and had 5 all NBA first team selections. KD averaged 27.4 points per game while playing in a Thunder uniform and is known as one of the deadliest scorers in NBA history. Westbrook may be the more loved Thunder player, but Kevin Durant was better all time.

Minnesota Timberwolves- Kevin Garnett

The Timberwolves may not have had the best team success, and they’ve only made it to the conference finals one time in their franchise’s history. Kevin Garnett led the T-Wolves to their only conference finals appearance and was the league MVP that season. Garnett is the Timberwolves all-time leader in every main statistical category. KG made 10 all-star appearances with Minnesota, as well as 8 all NBA team selections. He was also an elite defensive player with the Timberwolves and was named to 8 all NBA defensive teams. Kevin Garnett is considered by most to be a top 3 power forward of all time and had his best years in Minnesota.

Portland Trailblazers- Clyde Drexler

Drexler’s high flying and ability to score was often second to Michael Jordan. Clyde never won a championship with the Trailblazers but he did lead them to 2 NBA finals. Clyde played in Portland for 12 seasons and averaged 20.8 points per game in that span. Drexler was an 8 time all-star and made 5 all NBA teams with Portland. He averaged 27 points per game for two straight seasons with Portland. Playing in the Michael Jordan era overshadowed Clyde’s accomplishments and legacy, but he’s still the best player ever to play for the Trailblazers.

Golden State Warriors- Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry has already done more for the Warriors franchise than any other player in their team’s history. Some could argue Wilt Chamberlain deserves this spot because he averaged an absurd 41.5 points and 25.1 rebounds during his time with the Warriors. These are crazy mind blowing all time statistics but Wilt only played 6 seasons with the Warriors franchise. Steph has already played 11 seasons with Warriors and still has plenty of gas left in the tank. Stephen Curry was the first unanimous MVP in league history and has another regular season MVP to his name. He also led the Warriors to the best regular season record in NBA history. Curry has also won 3 championships with the Warriors, and although he doesn’t have a finals MVP, he was still the Warriors leader in each of their championships. Steph is a 6 time all-star, has made 6 all NBA teams, which includes him making the first team 3 times. Stephen Curry changed the way that basketball is played today and is undoubtedly the best shooter of all time.

Washington Wizards- Wes Unseld

As of right now, Unseld is the only player in the Wizards franchise history to play his whole career in Washington. Unseld’s scoring numbers didn’t look elite, but Wes was an absolute beast. He stood at only 6″7 and averaged 14 rebounds in his career. Wes led Washington to their only championship in the franchise’s history and was awarded the finals MVP. Wes was a 5 time all-star and only made 1 all NBA team in his career, but he did win a league MVP award with Washington. Unseld was a force to be reckoned with and is well deserving of the title as the best Washington Wizards player ever.

What’s Next for Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Utah Jazz players are frustrated with Rudy Gobert and relationships need to be fixed. The Jazz players have stated their frustration with Gobert’s carelessness regarding the coronavirus. Before Gobert’s diagnosis, he went out of his way to touch all of his teammate’s belongings. There was also an interview regarding the coronavirus that took place on March 9th. After the interview, Gobert mockingly touched every microphone in the press room. Donovan Mitchell was the second player on the team diagnosed with coronavirus. Mitchell likely got the virus from Rudy Gobert.

Donovan Mitchell went to Twitter to state that “hopefully people can continue to educate themselves and realize that they need to behave responsibly both for their own health and for the well-being of those around them.” There’s been speculation that this was Donovan Mitchell throwing shade at Rudy Gobert.

There’s a lot of frustration towards Gobert. Team chemistry is very important for team success. If the Utah Jazz players are still frustrated with Gobert, this anger could translate onto the court. Can these relationships be fixed between Rudy Gobert and the rest of the team? If not then what is next for Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz organization moving forward?

The Jazz had a record of 41-23 and was the 4th seed in the Western Conference before the season was put on hold. The Jazz had two all-stars this season. Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. Rudy was having another defensive player of the year type season. Gobert was averaging 15.1 points, 13.7 rebounds and 2 blocks a game. He was also the defensive anchor for the Jazz and was leading them to the 9th best defense in the NBA. Gobert is very valuable to the Jazz success, but if relationships can’t be repaired, the Utah Jazz could potentially explore moving on from Rudy Gobert.

After this season, Rudy Gobert only has one year left on his contract and will be eligible for a 5-year contract worth $257 million dollars. Due to recent events, it wouldn’t be too unrealistic that the Jazz don’t offer Gobert a supermax contract. They could see this situation as a red flag. If Gobert signed a supermax contract with the Jazz, he would be making an estimated 49 million dollars in the final year of his contract. In the final year of his contract, he would be at the age of 33.

Rudy Gobert’s value and playstyle may not make him worthy enough of earning a supermax contract. Due to Gobert’s lack of offensive versatility and lack to switch onto the perimeter, this makes you question if he’s worth the supermax. Yes, Gobert is an elite defensive player and a two time defensive player of the year winner. The concern is that the supermax contract should be offered to players that can be the best player on a championship team. With today’s style of play, Gobert cannot be your best player on a true championship-contending team.

The Utah Jazz are currently not in an ideal position. The Jazz are good enough to be a top seed in the Western Conference but they are not considered to be true title contenders. The Jazz are trying to contend and win right now. In the offseason they attempted to elevate their team to championship contender status. They traded for Mike Conley, as well as signed Bojan Bogdanovic in the offseason. Bojan has been a great addition to the Utah Jazz, but Mike Conley has been one of the most disappointing players this season. Some thought these moves would put them over the top and be the missing pieces to being true contenders. Sadly, this team isn’t strong enough to compete with the top Western Conference teams like the Lakers and Clippers.

The future of this team is also uncertain. Rudy Gobert has 2 years left on his contract and then could walk in free agency. Mike Conley is 32 years old and has 2 years left on his contract. Bogdanovic will be 34 when his contract expires with the Jazz. The Jazz also don’t have a lot of young pieces to build around moving forward. Obviously the Jazz have Donovan Mitchell who is a 23-year-old all-star who’s still improving each season. Outside of Mitchell, the Jazz don’t have a lot of youth on their roster. The only other young quality players on the Jazz are Emmanuel Mudiay and Tony Bradley.

Mudiay is a former 7th overall pick and is only 24 years old but he hasn’t shown much promise this season. He’s having a career-low year in points, assists and minutes per game. To unlock his potential, Mudiay needs more of an opportunity. He is a free agent after this season and will most likely sign with a different team. A team that can give him more opportunities.

For Tony Bradley, he’s a 22-year-old center who is currently in his third NBA season. This is his first full season with the Jazz. He still has limited playing time and is averaging 4.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game. Tony Bradley doesn’t have a very high ceiling, but he has the potential to be a good young quality big man. If the Utah Jazz develop Bradley correctly, I can envision him potentially being a just above average starting center in the NBA. If the Utah Jazz franchise sees a lot of potential in Bradley, they could possibly trade Gobert to develop Bradley. I don’t think the Jazz have that much hope in Bradley that they are willing to trade their defensive player of the year center.

Maybe if the Utah Jazz franchise doesn’t believe they can win a championship or if they don’t think the locker room relationships could be repaired, then I don’t think it’s a bad option to trade Gobert if the right offer is on the table. However, if you decide to trade Rudy Gobert then you won’t be getting a player back with a similar talent level. Who would be a potential trade partner in a potential Rudy Gobert trade? What would the Jazz get in return that would be enticing enough for them to agree on? Obviously, the landscape of the league can change really quickly depending on the playoffs, free agency, and the draft but I think a playoff team looking to add a rim protector to help them transition into contenders would be a team that could target Gobert.

The team that makes the most sense would be the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics are an amazing defensive team, but they don’t have an elite rim protector and size down low. Gobert would fit in perfect style-wise. The Celtics culture is already heavily based on defense, so Gobert would fit right in. He would also provide a great defensive presence. If the Celtics acquired Gobert, I believe they could be the best defensive team in the league and be a top threat in the Eastern Conference. Gobert would be a perfect fit on and off the court with the Celtics. He fits their culture and I think he could be a good locker room presence.

Hypothetically if the Jazz were going to trade Gobert, what would they want to get back? If Utah decided to move on from Rudy, they would most likely go into a youth movement and try to stock up on draft picks and young assets. If they dealt him, they would most likely trade their other aging players too for young players and picks.

The Celtics would trade Gordon Hayward in the deal. To balance the salaries, Hayward would have to be included in the deal. He has two years left on his deal and would be eligible to enter the 2021 free agency. Once Hayward’s contract is up, they have a variety of options. They could decide if they want to resign him or get rid of his salary to attain more cap flexibility. It makes sense for the Celtics to trade Hayward. The Celtics have plenty of wing and forward depth with Tatum, Brown, and Smart. Hayward is the oldest and least valuable to the Celtics compared to Tatum, Brown, and Smart.

It would also be really exciting to see Hayward back on the Jazz. He was the best player for the Jazz for many years. He was even named an all-star as a member of the Utah Jazz. Hayward would be welcomed back with open arms because he was a fan favorite in Utah. Even if the Jazz don’t have the best team success with Hayward replacing Gobert, Hayward returning to the Jazz would make a lot of fans content.

The Jazz could also get the Celtics 2021 first-round pick in the deal. The Celtics would be at the top of the league with Gobert so they wouldn’t have much need for their draft pick. This would give the Jazz a late first-round draft pick so they can draft and develop a draft prospect.

The Jazz could also acquire one of the Celtics young prospects. Robert Williams would be a likely option. With Gobert, the Celtics would have a log jam at the center position. With their center depth, the Celtics wouldn’t be able to find much playing time for Williams. Williams is 22 years old and has decent potential. You could have Williams and Bradley and develop both of them. The Utah Jazz would have two young centers to make up for the loss of Gobert. Maybe one of the young centers can even turn into a starter quality player.

It is very unlikely that the Utah Jazz trade Rudy Gobert. The only way I can envision them trading Gobert is if he requests a trade. Otherwise, I believe the Jazz are happy with Gobert on their team. Although, it could be possible that the Jazz trade Gobert if they don’t think the relationships can be repaired. If the team wants to acquire assets and have a youth movement built around Donovan Mitchell, then Gobert could be a trade chip. I still believe that relationships can be repaired but if you are uncertain if Gobert will resign or if he requests a trade, then it may be best to trade him for assets before you lose him for nothing.

How Elite of a Defender is Ben Simmons?

One of the most overly criticized NBA players is Ben Simmons. This is because of his limitations on the offensive end. Ben has been criticized about his lack of ability to make, or even attempt an NBA jump shot. Simmons hasn’t taken the next big step on the offensive end. However, he has made great improvements on the defensive end this season. In this article, we are going to discuss how much Ben Simmons has improved as a defender. We are also going to discuss how good of a defender Ben Simmons is and if he is a legitimate defensive player of the year candidate.

Individual Numbers

Ben Simmons this season has been putting up very impressive defensive numbers. He is the league leader in steals with 2.1 steals per game. Last year he averaged 1.4 steals per game. He also averages the 2nd most deflections in the NBA with 4 deflections a game. Last year he was 21st in the league for deflections per game with 2.7. Simmons is among the top of the league in steals and deflections a game. This is due to his incredible reaction speed, his large wingspan and ability to be in the passing lanes.

We know Simmons is an elite perimeter defender due to his ability to get steals and deflections, but how does Ben Simmons matchup when he has to guard the best scorers in the league. Players like Trae Young, Lebron James, Pascal Siakam, Jayson Tatum, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Demar DeRozan have all been held to under 35% field goal shooting when being guarded by Ben Simmons this season. He’s held Trae Young to 18% from the field (2/11), Lebron James to 22% from the field (2/9), Pascal Siakam to 26% from the field (5/19), Jayson Tatum to 27% from the field (4/15), Russell Westbrook to 30% from the field (4/13), James Harden to 33% from the field (3/9), and Demar DeRozan to 30% from the field (3/10).

There are lots of advanced statistics to support Ben Simmons amazing defensive play this season. Ben Simmons places very high among the league in defensive rating. Defensive rating is a tool used to measure a player’s efficiency at preventing the opposing team from scoring. Ben Simmons places 14th in defensive rating, and last year Simmons placed 45th in defensive rating. Ben Simmons is also among the league leaders in defensive win shares. Defensive win shares are a metric used to measure the number of wins a player produces for his team, due to their defensive play. Ben Simmons places 4th in the league in defensive win shares. Ben Simmons ranked 21st in the league in defensive win shares last season.

Team Numbers

Now that we have viewed Ben Simmons as an individual defender, how good of a team defender is Simmons and how much does his defensive play help his team? As a team, the Philadelphia 76ers are 4th in defensive points per game and as a team they rank top 10 in blocks and steals. The 76ers also place 6th as a team for defensive rating. Ben Simmons also is a key go to defender for the 76ers. He guards the opposing teams 1st option for 26% of defensive possessions and he ranks in the top 10 for covering opposing team’s primary scorer.

Things You Can’t Coach

Ben Simmons isn’t just a one dimensional defender. He is one of the most versatile defenders in the league. With his 6″10 frame, he has the size and length of a big, combined with the speed and agility of a guard. He is a 6″10 player who can defend the perimeter at an elite level. Simmons can legitimately guard any player in the NBA, regardless of position. Ben ranks 3rd in the league in versatility rating, which measures how many different positions a player can defend.

Work ethic and willingness to improve is another big factor in defensive development. A big reason he has improved so much defensively this quickly, has been his dedication to improving his play on the defensive end of the ball. In the 2019 NBA playoffs, Simmons had the task of guarding Kawhi Leonard in the 2nd round of the playoffs. After Kawhi hit his iconic series ending shot against the 76ers, Simmons took more effort into improving his defensive play. Simmons was asked if guarding Leonard was going to have a lasting effect on him. He responded with “I think he kind of set the tone for me defensively… I just tried to carry that energy and consistency to now.”

This moment has awoken the defensive beast that is Ben Simmons.

Ben Simmons entered the season with the goal of winning defensive player of the year. Some people doubted he could come even close to that goal. Now he’s a legitimate defensive player of the year candidate.

Ben Simmons has taken big strides on the defensive end this season and has established himself as an elite defender. He brings great effort and hustle on the defensive end and is becoming more of a defensive leader. Ben Simmons is maturing on and off the court. He has great defensive instincts, mixed with footspeed and length. He has all the tools to win a defensive player of the year award in the future. Ben Simmons has limitations on the offensive side of the ball. He makes up for it with his defensive play. With his defense he will be a very valuable player for many years to come.
